Wow, a Hoch und Deutschmeister veteran. It is good to see these old veterans are being interviewed now before it is to late. I talked to various veterans in the 90s, but they have all passed away now. Sadly i didnt bring any camera to record my talks with any of those veterans.

Thank you so very much for this wonderful interview. I had the honor of interviewing many WK 2 veterans in the late 1980's up to the early 2000's. I have always had an interest in the ground formations of the Luftwaffe. I have interviewed many Fallschirmjäger, Flak personnel, and members of the Hermann Göring Panzer Division. I have never interviewed a member of a Luftwaffe Felddivision. Sadly, these divisions were only half the size of a Heer Division. They had poor infantry training and outdated weaponry. Most of their field artillery was pulled from museums in France and was from WK 1. Most of them were technical troops pulled from airbases and sent to fight. I have read reports on how the Soviets would target these Divisions because they knew they were at best half-strength with outdated field pieces. They did have good Flak Kompanies until they were transferred to Heer control, then Göring pulled those Kompanies back to Luftwaffe control. From this interview, it sounds like he was a member of either the 7th. or 8th. Luftwaffe Felddivision, which were destroyed, and the survivors of both Divisions were used to form 15. Luftwaffe Felddivision under Generalmajor Eduard Muhr in November 1942 near Rostov. The Division was surrounded, and most of the Division was destroyed In the summer of 1943. Remenants were absorbed by 5. Luftwaffe Felddivision in October. 5. Luftwaffe Felddivision under Oberst Hans-Bruno Schulz-Heyn was disbanded in May 1944 near Odessa. Sadly, most of these Luftwaffe Field Divisions were destroyed or disbanded. If I recall, the only one that made it through the war was 14. Luftwaffe Felddivision, which was stationed in Norway. I own a Fotoalbum from a member of the 7th. Feldivision. If he was a member of that Division I wonder if I have a Foto of him. I once met a Fallschirmjäger Veteran who joined the Luftwaffe because he wanted to be in the newly formed 21. Felddivision, which was partially formed from members of Division Meindl. He was inspired by Herr Meindl. He was placed into the Fallschirmjäger though. It was great though, as he got to meet the son of Herr Meindl at a Fallschirmjäger training event that we Fallschirmjäger re-enactors had here in the USA. If you click my avatar and go to my page, you can see a Foto of me with the son of Herr Meindl, who was also a Fallschirmjäger in WK2. Edit: I typed this before listening to the whole interview. From his captivity, it sounds like he was in 7. Luftwaffe Felddivision under Generalmajor Wolf Freiherr Von Biedermann. Since that Division saw combat near Stalingrad, Kriegsgefangener were held captive there.
