You were actually very close to solving this puzzle, without having to guess the ''1' value. Keep an eye on Area 8 and see how the only candidates in that area for a value of '3' are columns 4 and 5 on row 7. That means that you can eliminate the other '3' candidates in row 7 and hence determine that R7C1 can only be a '5'. From that point onwards the remainder of the puzzle is quite straightforward. I completed it in just under 16 minutes. 🙂

16.31 R6C3 is 5 R4C9 or R5C9 is 5 so eliminating 5 from R7,R8,R9 C9 results in R8C9 Bivalue 69 same as R8C3 69 eliminates 6 from R8C4 giving naked single 5 and the puzzle collapses

At 2:39 you say 1 and 2 can only go here. I can't see how you worked that out. 9 on the far right was a giveaway as all other cells were covered, which still left the 6 in 3 possible cells.

The 2 in row 6 can only be in column 2 or column 3. That eliminates the 2 from row 5 column 1, which places the 2 in column 1, row 3.

The only place where you can put a 9 in row 7 is column 6. With that, the only place where a 2 can go in box 5 is column 6. That eliminates the 2 from row 4, column 5, giving you a hidden 1-8 pair and a 4 in row 5 column 4. As a rule of thumb, if you find yourself penciling more than three values in some squares, you’ve probably missed something while scanning.

The hidden 5-8 pair in box 5 is there from the start.

Once you found the hidden single 9 in r3, c3, that meant that the 5 in r1 could only be in box (region) 1. That means that the only place for a 5 in column 4 was row 8. That, in turn, places the 6 in r6, c8, because the 6 in row 8 could only go in box 8.

It wasn't the 2,8 pair but the pencil marked 3s in box 9 you missed.

Lithe - is easily bent or flexed or something that does so. Like our lithe sheltie as she bends her way around on her back.
