Pelletier just did 5 or 6 issues on GI Joe with Hama, not sure what he was doing before. He is an amazing artist for the Joes. An all around underrated 90s talent like Nauck and Grummett.

I couldn't agree more with you. His CrossGen stuff is some of his best work. His DC stuff wow, it got me to read Aquaman

Bendis has written more Avengers than anyone plus X-Men, JLA, LoSH, Young Justice (so kind of Teen Titans), Defenders, FF (Ultimate version.) He is not suited to team books but has written almost every major team.

5 Years Later is awesome as long as Giffen is on it. Don't stay with that series any later than issue 50. 5YL works because the environment is decaying but the characters keep their goodness and integrity...Sun Boy aside. Bendis has made LOSH radioactive. I don't think anyone wants to use that Legion, no one wants to make another one, and no one wants to use any of the old ones. Its just been dead for like 5 years now.

Just came across this. So pleased to hear your appreciation of The Miniaturist. And your analogy with Brink of Destruction. Precisely. Also to hear your appreciation of Badland’s ‘so Doctor Who’ performance. 👌 And of course of my ‘Billy fluffs’. Not written actually, but ‘surprises’ I throw in on the day to amuse Mr Briggs. 👍😁

A dissection of a single issue of John Byrne's FF?. Now I've seen everything! YES, Virginia, everything IS on KZbin ; Funny thing is, although I have nearly the entire run in storage, I don't recall this amazing landscaped cover at all. How fucking brilliant! Like Ross, I too have a fondness for Byrne's FF - this issue was right in my comic accumulating wheelhouse, c. 9th grade. I too loved everything about Byrne! He isn't discussed nearly enough re: comic history - to my mind, he's Kirby's logical heir. Like him, Byrne has a precise command of line and composition - a visually unadorned style that elicited as much verisimilitude as was possible in comic form. That's why his (and Claremont's) "X-Men" commanded such attention, akin to Todd McFarlane's "Spider-Man," another illustrator whose precision and technique revolutionized comic sales. Following Byrne from "X-Men" to "FF" was easy as pie! Of course, there was nothing on Earth like Byrne and Claremont's "X-Men." Claremont's subplots - the Hellfire Club, the Sentinels, and esp. Dark Phoenix - were unlike anything else in comics at the time. It's funny. Everyone has a narrative of fiction that resonated w/ them during adolescence. Yet, no particular novel truly resonated w/ me in a way that, e.g., "Catcher in the Rye" or V.C. Andrews resonated w/ others from our generation. Yet, perusing the issue dates of Byrne/Claremont's "X-Men," I realize that Byrne and Claremont's run was the narrative from which I derived the most meaning in my adolescent life. The Dark Phoenix saga contained emotional multitudes - utterly heartbreaking! For me, X-Men #141 "Days of Future Past," was even more tragic. Something about Byrne's brilliant cover and the plot evoked so much emotion; clearly, alongside "Deathlok," the template for "The Terminator". I don't understand why it was never credited as such. Thanks so much for this! Any chance at exploring X-Men #141 or Moon Knight #29 - another Marvel title I religiously waited each month to buy from the racks at Williams' Pharmacy in St. Louis. Sienkiewicz's Moon Knight was sui generis and #29 is as incredible a comic cover as ever existed in the history of the medium. To this day, it strikes me w/ nearly the same power as it did my 12-year-old self! Cheers!

Even with Marvel stealing me away, Legion of Super Heroes was my favorite Comic Book! I could read in 1964, and I had access to my Uncle's Huge Collection of hundreds and hundreds of Comics from 1941 to 1964. Mostly DC, but some Timely, Independents, and early Marvel. But I loved the Legion because they were closer to my age. In fact, in 1969 I entered, but obviously didn't win, a DC Contest to create a character I think. I came up a Justice League of the United Planets. My idea was, a group of competent Heroes, but they are rejected because they over age. I had; A half Kryptonian half Daxxamite who would be invulnerable to Kryptonite and Lead The Wonder Woman of the 20th Century A man who rediscovers the Plastic Man formula and reinforces it with Elongated Man A throwback Thanagarian who could grow his own wings and morph his hands and feet into Super Steel Talon's A Green skinned, Blonde Haired woman who inherited a test weapon of the Guardians but absorbs the green energy into herself. She never needed recharging and didn't have a weakness to yellow or wood I also added an African American speedster. Not as fast as Flash, faster than any Marvel guys. Basically a Superman, Wonder Woman, Plastic/Elongated Man, Hawkman, Green Lantern, and Flash. Almost a full Justice League there. I finally got volume 9 of the Legion Archives so I now have the complete Adventure run. Those have gotten Expensive on the secondary market now. Volume 10 is now running almost $90, so I may never get it.

Thanks so much listening, sharing this cool story. Did you ever participate in any of the Legion elections. I did. Element Lad every time. The archives are pricey. I forget what's in 9. DC put out 3 omnis but the don't get that far. Again thanks for listening, and do mind if I read your post on my next Legion episode?

Go for it! Volume 9 has the last few of the Adventure Comics Run and then runs several of the backup shorts that were done in Action. The ones in Volume 9 end with Saturn Girl getting her newer Grell style costume. Volume 10 probably will be when they get their own book again, but it will probably be a while, if ever, I can afford that one. Because of where I lived, I think I only participated in two of the mail in elections. I believe I did vote for Element Lad in one, I believe it was not long after seeing him take out Mon-El in the contest and that I realized how underestimated he was, he could literally take out the so called 'Big Guns' Superboy, Mon-El, and Ultra Boy easily. Ironically, the next one, I did Karate Kid and he won. Although part of that was I was getting older and I was getting attracted to Jeckie, and I was also getting interested in Martial Arts myself.
