I don't know that this is worse than the movie. It's differently awful. Except for the lyrics not matching up to the music, that's the same.

Yes yes, my god YES!!! This was my first thought way back when this atrocious monstrosity was first revealed to us. The Simpsons already made commentary way back then on the effects of "design by committee" and how business people think latching onto "what's trendy and cool" is the best way to sell something to a new audience. But did they not realize they were decades out of touch doing this to Tugger; Making him into a generic dated rap/hiphop stereotype? Rockstar Tugger on the other hand draws inspiration from many ICONIC INDIVIDUALS of the music world. I look at him and see David Lee Roth, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Michael Hutchence, Adam Ant, Elvis and Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs (go watch their music video for Angels Don't Cry!). Some of these people came to peak stardom AFTER the original 1981 costume design, but you can see how as the decade wore on the look of Tugger's costume evolved and became more polished and refined. It even got to the point where I'd argue some of these people actually demonstrated a convergent evolution of aesthetic elements alongside Tugger's. And when I mean these people are comparable to Tugger it's more of a VIBE than any singular specific look they wore (although sometimes they get very close!). Rock Star Tugger transcended any particular stereotype because he captured the essence of a timeless rock star. His look is the ultimate meeting point between fashion and cat-like features. You cannot pin him down to any one person, fashion trend, musical genre, subculture, era or singular trope. His costume has elements of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. Some productions put him in leopard print Brothel Creepers, others in shoes styled after Seditionaries Boots by Vivienne Westwood. He's a rocker, punk, glam rock, new romantic, new wave, goth. I could go on... Also Andrew Lloyd webber should stick purely to Pop, Rock, Vaudeville, Jazz, Opera and Classical influences in his music. That's where he excels. He's got no idea what to do with Hip Hop and Rap. It doesn't suit Cats' original score either. You can't just cram a new musical style into a piece that wasn't originally written with those styles in mind. It jarrs with everything else alongside it.
