I actually stumbled upon your channel finding a notion template for my language learning! This is by far the most useful video I've found for learning French and I've gone through many because just like you I studied French in school but went out of practice so while I can do the basics pretty well, I had no idea how I could improve on my fluency! Very informative and I love how your video feels like I'm just talking to a friend!

Hey Flavia Nice video once again. Have you ever tried or heard of Assimil method? The Assimil method is a unique approach to language learning that emphasizes gradual and intuitive acquisition, much like how we naturally learned our first language. It focuses on exposure to authentic dialogues and texts, allowing learners to absorb the language organically. (Rosetta had a similar approach I guess but in a programmtic way on the computer screen). The Assimil method also makes use of parallel texts, presenting the material in both the target language and your native language side-by-side. This helps to facilitate understanding and build vocabulary without constantly needing a dictionary. Idioms and special expressions are explained separately, often with pronunciation guides in parentheses to help you master the spoken language. I personally used the Assimil books alongside other resources when I was learning French and (still am learning) Spanish, and I found them to be a valuable addition to my language learning journey.

Hey Flavia, I wanted to wish you the best of luck on your journey to learn German! I know it can be a really challenging language to master, especially with its complex grammar. Even the American author Mark Twain once joked that life is too short to learn German - and he spoke it quite well himself, having spent time in Berlin and other parts of Germany long before we had the digital tools we do today! It's definitely a challenge, but it's absolutely possible. English actually shares a lot of commonalities or "cognates" with German thanks to their shared Anglo-Saxon Germanic roots. As someone who also speaks Dutch and a bit of Low German, I see those connections even more clearly - but that's a whole other topic! To me studying a languag is kind of like preparing for some sports There are so many great reasons to learn a language. I also speak French, and it's been incredibly helpful when traveling. Who knows, maybe we'll even run into each other in Germany someday! Have fun and keep up the great work. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to following your progress. All the best, Marc PS. Learning a language is a bit like preparing for a sports competition - you have to put in the daily training and practice until it all pays off. But it's incredibly rewarding when it does! Herzliche Grüße aus Deutschland! (Warm greetings from Germany!)

I speak nine languages (romance and germanic) and for me the hardest ones I encountered on my path are Swedish, plus Russian (my first slavic one) and, exceptionally, Mandarin. Just for knowledge sake. If I read a Wikipedia article I can understand quite a lot of Swedish and I can get the gist of most sentences in Russian. About Mandarin I got familiarized with all the syllables in pinyin and I can read the language easily saying the tones correctly (no matter if I don't understand anything) plus now I know all the radicals by shape, meaning and pronunciation. Even I can spot each one of them in a compound character. I'll go on with the three of them but after so many languages learned previously I'm taking these three ones as the last ones to put a real effort on.

Agreed on Japanese and other super complicated languages. Learning it for 2000 hours and then struggling to read a novel or watch native content? No, sorry. It's not worth the effort, especially for someone like me who lives in Europe. I can probably learn 3 European languages to C1 with the same amount of hours it'll take me to reach some kind of proficiency in Japanese but I'll actually have a real use and profit out of it.

Lol knowing Spanish is really like a cheat code when learning - let's say - French. You can in most cases just do word by word translations in your head. I myself am a German native speaker and I can most certainly not do that, but I have B2 in French though. I'd definitely love to improve it, imma have a look at Lingvist, great inspiring videos!!

If you are not interested in the culture, it is okey not to learn the language. But the fact that it is hard shouldn't bother anyone. Good resources and textbooks help a lot. I agree that without necessary resources it is too tiring to learn kanji for example. I don't want to learn italian or any other more european language such as portugese, dutch, romanian etc. just beccause they are easier to me than asian languages. I would choose to learn chinese instead of 4 more less spoken european languages.

Frisian is the most related to English followed by Dutch and Low German (Low Saxon) and then followed by the North Germanic languages like Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. All of them share a lot of cognates and are related to English though. Apart from these Germanic lanuages French certainly left its footprints in the English vocab and is thus also a language that can be studied in a rapid amount of time (nevertheless the French pronounciation may be challenging at the beginning).

Hi ethnic Chinese to my father and my father’s family and I grew Listening to people speaking various Chinese languages (no, they’re not dialect) For this reason, I had the phone in the pronunciation in my ear in my mind and on my tongue, so it was very easy for me to learn them to a certain degree However, for people who Do not have the benefit of listening to these language in their formative years I can feel for them. It’s not easy. I grew up in an English language bubble in the United States Surprisingly, with the number of Korean immigrants living and working nearby me I hear Korean spoken quite a bit

Let’s see most people in the Netherlands are highly skilled at speaking the English language ( I’ve often heard people say that Dutch sounds like bad English) I’ve also heard people who went to the Netherlands to try to learn Dutch and the Dutch language speakers will respond to them in English This creates a real challenge for English speakers because really it’s only the Netherlands and part of Belgium where you can speak the Dutch language and if they’re not willing to practice with you, it’s not worth it I can understand why Italian would kind of be redundant but then again French, Spanish and Portuguese are international world languages ( You probably know this as well as I do the Portuguese in the English have a special relationship that’s over 600 years old) This also affects the Portuguese language as you probably found out that a lot of Portuguese or to send it from English settlers

Since learning a language takes a lot of time, you have to have valid reasons to learn it. You don't have to apologize if you don't want to learn a language. Right now the only reason I'd want to improve my Russian would be to do an Udemy course in that language. I'm not interested in moving to a country where Russian is spoken or marrying a woman from one of those countries.

Prior to my language learning journey I was admittedly flaunting every possible subject but when i decided one day to pick up german I noticed that my memory was getting better and I could take in large chunks of information like never before. So if you're planning on studying medicine or law or some other impossibly hard discipline..learn a hard language lol

Kaixo Flavia, soy de Austria, no vecinos vascos, but native German speaker. A few years ago when I retired I decided to learn Basque. After some years of Chinese I thought it would be easier, not really. BUT, its a fascinting journey, the differencies will give you a lot of insight in your own language, too. If I got you right from your video, you are Spanish. Its the language that has the most teaching material for Basque. So for one it is an advantage, on the other hand you have to get deep enough into Basque, you have to shake of the Western Grammatic coat, and see how the Basques see their language themselves. I dare to prophecy, sometime in the furure you will regret not to have tried it. your brain is mucher younger than mine (72), so the learning should be much easier for you, but being younger you also shy away from it with poor excuses, instead of taking the energy to do it. Beside Spanish and French words there are also Latin and Arabic words in Basque, plus a rich history not always pleasant around them. And a pre Chrstian mythology. And words like otsail which means February , which comes from otso wolf, mating season in February. or asoka market comes from soukkh in Arabic ... buen viaje!

Basque would be cool to learn, probably one of the hardest and simultaneously most useless languages to learn. I really hope the revitalisation efforts bear fruit and keep the language alive because it is a wholly unique one and deserves study. If you like the idea of non-IE languages spoken in Europe then maybe look into Finnish/Estonian/Hungarian. I'm currently trying to learn Finnish and it's a cool language, beautiful too! Latvian is also an interesting one as it's a bit of a hybrid between the old Baltic languages and Finno-Ugric so it really sounds like nothing else. Latvian and Lithuanian are the only remaining bastions of the Baltic tongue so they are both very unique. A bit like the Celtic languages in that regard. Speaking of which, it would be so awesome to be able to speak Irish. Probably one of my favourite languages but damn is it hard to learn, and pronounce. It's one of those that just oozes with mystery and old tales of fairies and magic. I once did a fantasy short movie and all the spells were in Irish. We probably butchered the pronounciation but even speaking those words gave me a feeling of connection with the ancient past, almost like a religious epiphany. One day, if I can ever master Finnish, I'll give Irish another go. I also want to give a shoutout to Greenlandic because nobody seems to even know it's a thing. Definitely an oddball and extremely difficult to learn. Heavily agglutanive, forming very long words with complicated grammar and very strange sounds. Probably one of the hardest languages on the planet to learn.
