Why unpredictable ending? After all, this isn't the first tim robots survive to humans. "A. I.", for example, and "Matrix"... I liked robots in this movie, even if in my opinion they are all too many anonymous (onloy Clio and "watchmaker" have A BIT of personality). And it is the usual plot: I'm alive, I want to live ;)

The "purring" noise was the single thing I remembered about this machine. I saw one once, some 30 years ago.

I'm glad that you shared this video. I was a gadget freak and loved all the handheld electronic games. They fed my desire to interact with computers and such. This particular game was always by the couch and at the ready. It is a joy to hear it as you play the game, too. I clearly remember the sounds. Thanks for sharing and creating a high quality video that's in focus and has great clean audio.

A friend of mine has one of these devices, and the rubber dome key sensors under the keys get dirty after a while and need cleaning, but the contact surfaces on the rubber may disintegrate too. You can try cleaning the rubber part with water and the carbon/metal contacts with alcohol, though be sure to wipe the alcohol off quickly so it doesn't disintegrate stuff further. Don't get the alcohol on the rubber.

For some reason that video link doesn't work. The font I refer to is the font for "NEW GAME", "SAME GAME", "HIT ME", "COMP TURN". Can you add a link to the "closeups of the labeling" you mention in the video description to the description itself?

The font used for the four mode buttons is most likely 'ITC Avant Garde Medium'

Thanks for commenting... I'm not sure what some of these businesses are thinking these days... They are almost using a reverse logic where the more they shock, scare, or maybe disgust people that the more likely they are to part with their cash....

On her processor says (first Line) MP 1312 (second Line) MASLA52201 (the A may be a Delta but I'm sure is an 'A') and of course to the left of this is the Texas Instruments logo...

Has anyone ever connected her to a computer using her USB port? Does this do anything? Were they keeping this in mind for like firmware ugrades or something? (That must be the reason... I think I read somewhere that the first version had bugs but could be upgraded?) ... Is she hackable(?).

Is not a bother though, cause I don't have to stop what I'm doing to ask her or ask her again though :-) ... I suppose accuracy will vary with speaker voice too. Glad you mentioned the manual. I had forgotten how they use my favorite font (or a derrivative) thoughout the whole manual and _consistently_ refer to their product as "she", "her" throughout the manual, etc... Very very awesome. Is like an added delight just thrown in with the clock :-) I'm tempted to video this as well.

That is an interesting point about this particular video as I am not giving the correct "command". However, having said that, I'll say that my statement "in general" is true. Every morning while getting ready for work (and this is a great reason to have one of these by the way), I get her attention and ask for the time by saying "Time" to check how late I'm running. About half the time (ok, maybe less than that) she thinks I said "Alarm" instead and reads off the alarm time. (Contintiued)

Seems perfect if we use the correct command. People using other words other than the commands specified in the book seems to not work. Thanks for the videos...

I had this too. Someone just posted about the old Matel Football and now I'm finding all sorts of retro games I had. "Blip" hated it. "Hit and Missile" Loved it. But Merlin was my all time favorite.

Hi Emily. I just now noticed this comment... Yes... This video was supposed to be a redo of the "Surfing eBay with Dave" series, hopefully with better quality, but I guess neither happened and this just became part of Surfing eBay with Dave... Maybe we should come up with a snazzier name and commit to better recording tech. One title I though of was "Play and Record".

You can even see her "animate" in this one of you look really closely :-) (The Diamond glimmers briefly) They make this look so much like "backglass" but is really a display... You can sort of tell the difference when you first see one of these machines (like I thought: "Are these video slots?" but upon closer inspection seems the reels are still mechanical(?)... Sure seemed that way to me or I probably wouldn't have played with her), but the way they do the animation is sooo subtle...I like.

Yeah they were a little outdated by the time I was in school so I never really experienced them. They were just getting rid of those black screen interface computers and bringing in the Windows ones. I think I was about 6 (around 1997 or so), had an immediate facination with them and I used to sit after school in the computer lab. c:

As for the color names, I am no expert on this, but I _think_ those were shortcut keys to imbed the codes(?) for those colors into BASIC programs that users were writing... Someone who remembers better than I do can correct me... I actually grew up with a TI-99/4A and satisfied my Commodore fandom after I became an adult and was living on my own :-D
