Thank you for reporting on this. I lost most of my abdominal lymph nodes when I had 10 lb of fibroid tumors removed. As a result I have a lot of swelling in my legs.I have had seven vein closings 4 on one leg and three on the other. I suppose that has help to relieve some of the swelling but they're still considerable swelling and pain. I am hoping that maybe this new procedure would be an option in the future for me.

Thank you for this video. Nobody tells you this when recommending tamoxifen. I developed mild lymphoedema and my BMI is 22. Can the lymphoedema stop when you stop taking tamoxifen?
@lymphsmartАй бұрын
It may still require constant management due to prolonged medication usage. But it may improve some as well.
@heatherhenry1967Ай бұрын
So I was diagnosed with stage 2 dcis and I take tamoxifen and yes I was and am overweight and yes I developed lymphadema. Only 1 lymph node was removed but they also had to go back for a second surgery and I had to wait 30 days for it cause it was Covid times and I tested positive before the second surgery
@lymphsmartАй бұрын
Im sorry to hear this. Tamoxifen is one of many reasons why you may have gotten lymphedema. Make sure to visit your CLT regularly to best manage it.

Wouldn’t AI’s like Letrozole also have the same effect in the lymphatic system then?
@lymphsmartАй бұрын
I agree that many hormone therapies may have some effect, but I could only find clinical research with results like this from Tamoxifen. ALL medications have different modes of action and work on the body slightly differently.

@lymphsmart I believe AIs act differently in the body from tamoxifen

Hi Lisa, thank you so much for sharing! I had no idea about this connection, yet it makes sense. But there isn't anything we can do about the tamoxifen especially if AI's are not an option😢

What's the clinical reasoning of working from proximal to distal then doing it standing
@lymphsmart2 ай бұрын
It is best to stimulate the muscle pumps closest to the lymph nodes first, particularly if you are more swollen. Once the proximal area is moving better/clearing, then you can work the more distal areas.

Great video! Helped me better understand how my lymphatic system works and keeps me healthy
How does one go about functioning normally, such as being on your feet many hours a day, which bandaged? I have to walk like I just rode a horse for 3 hours. Is bandaging a MUST for stage 2 to get the sweeping down enough to be measured for a more permanent compression garment?
@lymphsmart3 ай бұрын
It's definitely tough...but there may be other options that you can discuss with your therapist.

There are always ways to improve or refine our lymphoedema management techniques for better management which then reduces cellultis occurances. Celulltis is a wake up call to it is time make changes!. It does however take effort and thought and learning and daily consistant self cares and observing and reacting to changes and modifications.Replacing compression regulalry and much more.

The first thing you said is the most important however....getting someone to actually diagnose you is like finding the million dollar Easter egg. I felt something slightly different in my abdomen and randomly my leg would feel heavy. This happened sporadically for a couple of years. I had to take pictures of my leg when it was puffy because by the time I got into the doctor visit, it would be back down again. Long story short, it took over 5 years to get to a therapist and over $10,000 out of pocket. I live in a rather large town and there is only 1 certified lymphatic therapist. Crazy.

My doctor prescribed me water pills. I am very overweight w lymphedemia in my left leg, however luckily my blood pressure is good and blood work came back good. through my research here I am confused why my doctor has prescribed me the water pills. I am to be fitted w a compression devise, which I feel will actually treat the condition. I feel like drinking natural diuretics like tea would be a way better alternative to taking water pills for this.

I’ve had it since high school and I’m now 30. My doctor back then said it wasn’t lymphedema because I was too young and I had no injuries or surgery. It never went away and now idk. I’m just trying to walk more and lose weight. I’ve also known a sedentary life causes swelling as well. It’s progressing.

I so appreciate this information. I’m so disappointed in myself. I was doing so well trying to prevent lymphedema then I just got distracted by life and stopped exercises and wearing my sleeve then all of a sudden it happened . last week I started experiencing swelling in my hand. Now alittle in my arm. I had ten lymph nodes removed June 2023. Completed radiation in Nov. I was doing so well. I just don’t understand how this happen. I can only think that the heavy lifting I was doing could have triggered it. Not sure how to live recreationally. I love outdoors but concerned if the heat can be a trigger. I have a custom sleeve for arm and hand but it doesn’t seem to be as tight anymore. Should compression garments be tight? Pls advise.
