My first time dealing with one of these boards and 2 of 4 zones are staying open constantly. I’m getting 28v on open and 25 on close for the actuator at the same time when calling for those zones. I wouldn’t think I should get voltage on both sides at the same time. I would think close would be zero volts when asking the zone to be open. Bad board?

Known issue with these Carrier units. You need to replace the OEM fuses with a different type of fuse at a different rating, there is a tech bulletin about this. The way this is wired, that blower is running all the time. If there is a smoke/fire shut down to this unit, the blower will NOT shut down.
@randyhoff367610 күн бұрын
It will probably take a while to get VFD, I install a contactor, parallel the coil with 1 stg compressor contactor coil so it will shutdown on smoke detector if needed. Also Carrier recommend using different fuses

I Have a Goodman heat pump, less than 4 yrs old. Installed with my new home. Unit failed after 2 years. Installer said coolant was overcharged (600+ psi). Replaced compressor $1200 under warranty (part and labor). Unit failed again after that, blower motor was burned out. I paid $300+ to replace that. This past June unit failed again. $456 to replace capacitor. Unit failed again today blows warm air as usual, compressor and fan are running. No problem whatsoever during heating season only during cooling season. Needless to say I am not impressed with this Goodman heat pump which has cost thousands to repair and less than 4 years old. LEMON!!! Any suggestions?
@NighthawkHVAC18 күн бұрын
I'm sorry to see you're having so many issues with your AC unit. High pressure will kill a compressor. Especially if it's running for a long time. I'm surprised the high pressure switch didn't cut off your unit. Usually when this occurs the outdoor unit will cycle on and off and will not cool. The fact that your unit was overcharged is definitely a mistake by the installer or tech. The failed blower motor can be caused by dirty filters, under sized return grill/ducts, some type of airflow restriction, or an out of specification capacitor. If the replacement compressor was not installed properly you might have another compressor failure in the future. Unfortunately sometimes you can get a lemon. That goes for all brands. It might be a good idea to try to find another company to take a look at the unit to get another set of eyes on it. I wish you luck and hopefully no more issues.
@rexford901918 күн бұрын
Actually I’ve had 4 companies work on this unit. Most recent was a routine maintenance 3 days ago and they said everything checked out fine. I’m living in a desert climate for 35 years and in recent years the 100+ degree heat waves have been brutal, lasting 6 to 8 weeks during the summer months.
@NighthawkHVAC17 күн бұрын
You might try one of those condenser misters. Especially on the hotter days. It will reduce your head pressure lowering the load on the compressor. It looks like a joke when you see it, but in extreme heat it can be effective.
@rexford901917 күн бұрын
Technician came back today and diagnosed the problem as stuck reversing valve. Said replacing that should fix the issue.

I totally understand. There are a lot of bad techs or sales people in disguise. But we're not all bad! I made this channel to try to help techs be better and to help homeowners be aware of what they're getting into whether they do it them self or hire a company to look at their unit. The disclaimer in the beginning is designed to let you know that the video is intended for people that are familiar the HVAC systems. Most people won't understand everything I'm talking about. I don't want people to misunderstand something and damage their unit or hurt themself. Thank you for watching and commenting.

My story mirrors yours. I got everything I need to service and install HVAC systems that I own. My experiences with HVAC pros has been absolutely horrible. EPA 608 license and a few dozen hours of KZbin has been enough for me to save $30k so far. The next year will be busy as well. Honestly, it would be worth it for just a single installation.

I just diy'd 3 of them. All you need is basic electrical and plumbing knowledge, some common sense and the right tools. The tools are expensive, probably all in about $900 which includes a 2 stage vacuum pump, nitrogen tank, digital pressure and vacuum gauges, 2 core removers/isolators and a torque wrench. I’m probably doing a better job because I have 24 hours to wait for a pressure test and have time to do a triple evaluation. I also saved about $14,000 by doing in myself. Permit and inspection were another $200
