Good set. Is Geraldine any relation to John Brosnan, the accordion player from Killarney? I played there with John in 2013 for two nights. He was leading the session both nights.

I remember "McAlpine's Fusiliers" aka Wimpey Construction employees working on the Hydro Dams in Scotland in the early 60's.

Would you like the original lyrics of McAlpine's Fusiliers??? I have them!
@t.p.mckenna2 жыл бұрын
It's McAlpine's FUSILIERS and was a colloquial term for the hundreds and thousands of Irish labourers who were part of the post war construction of Britain from power stations to motorways. Laing & Wimpey were two other major building firms referenced in the song. It was a highly exploitative era of employment based on cash-in-hand and routine blacklisting for anyone that wanted to complain about their conditions or site safety and the like, but the lucky ones picked enough up skills to break out and go independent, and all the better if they met a good lass at the Galtymore or the National and were able to start families. The song has its own wikipedia entry: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McAlpine's_Fusiliers

It sounds like MacApine's Fusileers to me, at least that was how Ronnie Drew and The Clancys used to sing
