If you wanted to use this in a hydroponics system instead of a traditional garden, what would be the liquid fertilizer to water ratio or would it still be like a 1/4 ratio you said in the video?

Most compost builders tend to put layers of carbon then nitrogen, would it not be better to mix these together rather than layering?

I did this in a small container a few days ago before I saw your video. Pls can you explain why I must not add clippings from the tomato family? Cause I just trimmed excess leaves from my tomato and thought it will be good to add to the liquid fertilizer. What is the negative effect ?
@organicediblegarden90615 ай бұрын
Tomatoes are from the solanum family and the leaves can be toxic in large quantities. You'll be fine with a small quantity.

What is the fertilizer content of something like that liquid? Can it be done on a large scale?
@sophiakim14756 ай бұрын
Weeds and water, that's it?
@organicediblegarden90616 ай бұрын
For the summer version, comfrey is the main ingredient. Be careful to only plant Russian comfrey or Bocking 14 which doesn't self seed. For the winter version, we would add fish heads, animal manure and seaweed. The specific weeds we mention all have particular minerals present.

Why can't I put anything in there that is part of the nightshade family? Is it because of solanine?
@organicediblegarden90616 ай бұрын
Yes. Small quantities of tomato and potato leaves are fine, but we wouldn't recommend large quantities.

Why not add anything from the Tomato family?
@organicediblegarden90616 ай бұрын
The solanum family to which the tomato belongs has a toxic element in its foliage. A small amount of tomato leaves in your liquid fertiliser is fine. We wouldn't recommend adding a huge amount.

Hi! First off, I love this video. My question is, why should you not put pieces of tomatoes plants in the mixture for your liquid fertilizer? Thank you!
@organicediblegarden90617 ай бұрын
In large quantities tomato plants can be toxic. They belong to the solanum family. A small amount is fine.

We probably wouldn't use it for hydroponics. You need a special blend for that.

Hello.. I wanna start doing microgreens and saw ur vid. After harvesting, do you throw away the seeds or do they regrow?
@organicediblegarden90618 ай бұрын
There can be a bit of regrowth, but it's not up to much. Also because there are so many seeds, they take up all the soil, so there's no soil left either. We just start over after harvesting 😊

My dad has been composting for about three years. When he started, I worked in the local grocery store's produce section and was able to get tons of plain cardboard (which I cut up into small squares and into trash bags) from deliveries, and scraps from cut-up items, including bell peppers, cabbage leaves, cornhusks, and old asparagus. After some time we started using dead leaves (plenty of them here in the mountains if North Carolina), used coffee grounds, and grass clippings (I mow his lawn every seven to ten days). Now that his compost use/needs have slowed, we collect only as/when necessary, as he could composts now.

There is a growing argument to not crop rotation for the same reasons as they did. As pests build up and linger so do their enemies the good insects etc. organic garden if using lasagna or mulched garden method you keep adding food at all stages. Working with nature can pay off big time
