Excellent as always. Looking forward to a general update, love to see more of the pub and station area that we’ve only had a brief glimpse of.

Good morning Kier 😊 What a fantastic opening video with X2 Sulzer 25s on a long coal train 👍🏻 Just miss the early days of the 70s as I was born in 1957 but it was my favourite era of train spotting so this really does depict BR blue without tops 🤣 Cheer Stevie

Those new Accurscale Class 31s look very good. Could you have ordered them directly from Accurascle with EM gauge wheels already fitted?
@kierhardy27898 күн бұрын
Unfortunately not... maybe we should have a word with them.
@NHMFR8 күн бұрын
@@kierhardy2789 I'm interested to know what collet chuck you use for wheel turning. I presume you use a horologist's lathe? I have an ML7, but so far haven't found anything suitable and will probably make something.. I have a rusting problem with some Gibson wheels hence would prefer to modify the supplied wheels. Execellent video, as always (as is EMgauge70s).
@kierhardy27898 күн бұрын
@@NHMFR It's a Pultra watchmakers lathe which I inherited from my Great Grandfather, so came designed with collets in mind. I'm sure collets can be obtained to fit most lathes, including the cheaper Chinese imports. Sorry I can't be of further help.

Yes, it's good to have another visit. I wonder what you make of the new Accurascale MK1 suburban's. I like them but methinks a more orange internal light would represent cigarette tar on the innards better?
@kierhardy278910 күн бұрын
Orange lighting for the smoking compartments and white lights for the non smoking would be a great idea. Lovely coaches, but not easy to convert to EM.

Hi Keir. Could you tell me how you weather your buses? Have you applied Matt varnish to dull them down? Mine are very shiny and want to improve the appearance but don’t want to spoil them! Thanks!
@kierhardy2789Ай бұрын
They do look too shiny out of the box, so I give my road vehicles and buses a couple of coats of brush painted acrylic matt varnish, which I think is a good starting point.

Hi, I really like your railway and seeing it from this propective was super but only let down by the train interior so there is another way to do this and one of your comments does say about graphics so to see what you can do please have a look at my go at this type of video from a few years ago entitled "CAB VIEW WITH GRAPHICS 3a" now its not a super video a bit of fun really but if you like what you see please let me know and I will help you to use this way. Cheers Robert.
@Pjs75Ай бұрын
Well worth showing to a wider audience! Your trackside & layout detail shows in snatches & glimpse closely approximate to the 1:1 scale ‘original’.
@railnut9133Ай бұрын
I thought that the figures on the platform, seemed to be more lifelike when viewed from inside the carriage, making up for the obvious lack of movement. Maybe just a fleeting glimpse tricks the eye. A great new take on a fabulous layout, Kier

Love that DMU sound. Was it a 117? Reminded me of Barking-Gospel Oak back in the 1980s. Like to get that sound for my Bachmann. Thank you more please
@andygj66Ай бұрын
More please! Driver’s view videos are great but in reality, that’s a perspective only afforded to a select few. This is how most of us see the railway and it really shows the quality of the modelling. Very, very convincing.

Hi, a great experiment. I know your railway has a ton of very fine detail all over the place, but it really stands out in this video experiment as looking so very lifelike..............A real credit to your attention to detail. Thank you, all the very best Dave.

Really lovely and atmospheric. A similar video taken with the camera behind the driver in the cab of a diesel with forward and driver side window view would I suspect have a similar lovel effect.

@rogerking7258Ай бұрын
That's a really interesting idea. As you say, the interior is too fuzzy, but when the train is moving along in "daylight" the views are really quite convincing. At model size you are never going to get a realistic depth of field to simulate how the human eye sees things at 1:1 scale unless you use massively bright lighting and then stop the lens down to a tiny, tiny aperture, even if you're using a small sensor size. I'm a photographer, but not a videographer so I don't know if such gear exists. I think it's worth pursuing though, because the effect looks very promising. Another way might be to film a sideways view from a flatbed wagon and then superimpose an interior image over the footage, though to my eyes this always looks very artificial and not at all convincing.
@kierhardy2789Ай бұрын
I did consider a superimposed image to represent the interior, but you quickly lose that feeling between daylight and in tunnels.

Always love my days trainspotting at Hornsey Broadway now I get to collect numbers home on the DMU.... absolutely brilliant 👏 can't wait for more of same
@EdVanMeyerАй бұрын
Might be possible in video software to take an interior pic of the carriage, in photoshop make the windows green and in a video of normal running use the 'green screen technique on the green so the video plays behind and is only seen through the windows.
@EdVanMeyerАй бұрын
Nice, a solution might be to build a mockup interior on a coach chassis extended out over the side and put a few seats and passengers on and run the trains on the 'other' track so you get some depth in the carriage mock up which might help.

I'd agree, but yu can always crank it up a bit. Always getting different soundtracks to the right level.... rain joints, engine sounds, and a wobblegob in the background, etc.

Enjoy, I did. Ignore the nay sayers. The view from the windows was very nostalgic and very realistic. I particularly liked the way the shadows (presumably from the sun) drifted across the inside of the DMU. It may have been unintentional but it certainly added to the realism. Thanks, Bob
