With C&O 614 going to be restored, I imagine her inaugural excursion run will be from Harrisburg to Baltimore via Amtrak’s keystone corridor and csx’s Philadelphia subdivision to partake in the b&o bicentennial in 2027 and with 611 accompanying her in a doubleheader. What better way for 614 to celebrate her return to steam than with her contemporary and old rival turned friend (the latter is reference to when 614 and 611 were displayed together at the Virginia museum of transportation in 2011).

It has been officially announced that C&O 614 will be restored to operation again. RJD America LLC acquired the locomotive and has contracted the Strasburg Railroad’s Mechanical Department to do the full restoration on the engine, tender, and water tender. In terms of where it will operate, here’s an answer from the FAQ section of the C&O 614 website, “Upon completion of the restoration, Locomotive 614 will be operated at various heritage railways and special events nationwide. Specific schedules and locations will be announced closer to the completion of its restoration.”
