did I miss the blocking? Or was it not needed? Looks nice.

Notching against code in Colorado. I did cantilever beam on post configuration. Worked great. But great seeing folks with some latitude in the attitude. Good job

that's interesting it's the preferred method here- I'll have to look into why Colorado doesn't approve. Thanks for watching!

We are no where near you just wondering what a deck like this costs?

It's really tough to say actually because there are so many material options that affect price in a big way. They aren't cheap to build. I usually suggest people get three quotes to get an idea of market prices in their area, but you have to make sure they are quoting the exact same thing (deck and rail selection, layout etc). What part of the world are you in?

Nice creative but good-looking solution for the railing by the brick.

Love the fact that you guys aren’t just cementing post in the ground and doing it the proper way with footings. Notching them out to. Some people actually bolt the top frame on. Crazy! Good work

I've demoed several decks 15-20 years old where the posts where imbedded in concrete and they get completely rotted out where the post meets the concrete because water just sits there. It's especially sketchy when this was done on second story decks! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Deck came out great. Very modern look. I had one question. for the joists. How come you didnt use a rubber tape for the tops for standing water from rain or snow? Was it the customers choice to leave out for cost concerns? Other than that, great job.

Thanks for watching and sorry for the late reply! Where I am in SE Michigan you do see joist tape from time to time but it isn't standard practice. Unless it is part of water drainage system (such as the Trex rainescape) I usually don't install anything over the joists. What isn't covered by the deck boards is covered by the hidden fastener system we use so there really isn't much water sitting on the joists. Also I usually do about a dozen re-decks a year where we rip off the old cedar or treated boards and replace with composite, keeping the existing framing and I'd say 9 in 10 of them the joists are still in great shape minus discoloration. For those reasons I don't push the use of joist tape, but if a homeowner requests it we put it on. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thanks for posting this! Great explanation and demo. You should be paid by Trex to do their install videos, instead of the sales pitch videos they do.

Great video. Watching you cutting all those 6x6 beam seats with a Sawzall I felt like I should tell you that you will love a DeWalt chainsaw bro. Awesome time saver and it makes the task so easy.

Actually the bulk of that cutting is done with the circ saw-I just finish the little triangle that the kerf of the blade misses in the middle with the reciprocating saw… I’m always down for new tools but i have a hard time believing I could get the kind of clean cut I get with the circ as nice with a chainsaw… send me the link!

update to your suggestion... I poo poo-ed the chainsaw suggestion but was recently working alongside a crew that used it and my curiosity is piqued... their notches weren't as clean and some had to be shimmed, but I'll chalk this up to learning curve of the tool. I might be investing in one soon, if only to keep from all the ladder positioning on the tall ones.
