Thanks for this. I am a musician too using Logic, Davinci etc and I wondered whether the upgrade to Ventura affected any software authorisations you had on your old(Catalina) system. I use an ilok which should take care of the vast majority, but there are definitely packages lurking which have bee authorised on the MacOS boot disk.

Over all, I'll take the MODX by a mile. It's by far, the most powerful "light weight" keyboard on the market, and the most "bang for the buck" of any workstation style keyboard available. Sure there would be certain differences between a $3000+ flagship vs an originally $1300 keyboard (now $1500), but the MODX is much newer and very powerful. Incredibly portable, and most importantly, compatible with sounds from the Montage, MOTIF family that dominated the market for over 20 years, and the DX-7 series of synths of the 80s. This means tons of great sound collections you can tap into for all kinds of sounds. Possibly more sound collections available for it than any other keyboard. And also that one is made by Korg, and the other Yamaha (world's largest musical instrument company) is going to mean some differences in sounds alone as both companies have made some great sounds over the years. It's no surprise the MODX has been, and may very well be, the best selling keyboard in the world. Certainly from a standpoint of a keyboard being used in bands. And when it comes to trying to get sound reproductions of all those famous sounds used on records bands are trying to recreate, the popularity difference alone and all the tons of sound collections available in the MODX means it would be a much easier job to likely find what your looking for in the MODX. The M3 I don't recall being on the market very long. While it can make some great sounds, I'm sure the number of sounds available that you can get for it is a tiny fraction of that of the MODX. Also, are these sounds in your MODX demo really the most impressive sounds the MODX can make?

Argh.....I just open an old project just to find out, that my Electric Sunburst guitar doesn't work because Kontakt version is now too old!

How do you get this into midi on a track in a DAW? Does it essentially set you up to record? So you would make a track and record using the keyboard with the preset patterns?

The Korg M3 is a classic.

Not sure if you said this but it looks like it saves the sequence associated with the sequence.

Please help: do I need to instal a USB driver when I connect the Wavestate onto PC via USB cable?

Great to see this David. I have Equator 2 with the Rise 2, and have been looking at perhaps branching out with another MPE VST Synth. I've been looking at CS80 VST's. but hard choice! Pigments was def on the radar. So this is particularly interesting. Thanks. Cant you team up with Roli? Helps them, helps you, helps us. 👍

Good info thanks! I bought the Kromium pack and use it on desktop and PC and really like it. It works for me. I also reached out to Audiomodern support with some questions and an issue and they responded very quickly and got things resolved.

Hi. They are getting close, but compared to other plugins the Air Pianos sound nasal like they are underwater, very boomy, with a strange resonance in the sustain and too much Fxs. I'm sure they will fix this in an update and add more control and CC response. Thanks a lot for sharing!!

I still have my M3 88 expanded, but unfortunately the touch screen went out and my Radius card stopped working. Also, be careful if you tend to get sweaty hands. The printing on the buttons will rub off with time. It's still a great sounding machine though.

Do you have nVidia GT755M graphics (my late 2013 i5 does)? Opencore list this Kepler card as supported only up to 11.7x Big Sur. I'd prefer to run to Ventura, as long as the graphics are OK. I don't need optimum performance as I'll not be gaming.

I've heard that it used to have problems with the screen...sooner or later it will go out, unfortunately.

I had the 76-key version brand new in 2007 and in 2013 I upgraded to the 88-key version, both have aluminum sides, not plastic, I think only the 61-key version had plastic sides. After this keyboard was released, within a couple of years, they released the "Expanded" version. I upgraded mine and it was a great improvement, more sounds, better sounds, more detailed combis. I bought and installed the 256Mb memory module because now it was needed in order to load all the modules at the same time. It was and still is a great instrument, very complicated but very rewarding and just ahead of its time.

I haven't figured out much of Equator 2 yet, but it makes great sounds with little effort. Great Synth. The Roli Seaboard is excellent. So expressive! The Orchestra Ensemble is impressive though one of the more expensive.

there is a whole lot to like about this synth. the tone of the oscillators is fantastic. not sure why the reviewer says there are only two waveforms...i can hear at least 30 when i just only the wavetable synth engine. the fx are amazing. would be nice if there was a master FX off switch. as far as moving the mouse around, you have to move it up and down on some of the patches and the arpeggiator will kick in as well as the morphing of oscillators starts. this thing kicks ass. if you don't believe me, just turn on apple's retro synth for 30 seconds to hear how far we've come. i got this plug in free over black friday. i love this synth.

What is the difference between this and any vocal sample with big reverb?

Which version of logic are you using here? I'm on the latest and I don't have the same options (DAW in) so wondering if its changed. I see comments below with similar issues.

Hi David and thanks for posting this, it's useful, but I am not sure yet wether it will help me fix the numerous issues I am now faced with my version of Kontakt! I hope you won't mind me posting this moan on your page? Native Instruments are rotten! I really have had it with them deliberately messing up years of hard work building and crafting a library of my own sounds, and thus breaking many song recordings as a result! I feel like a strong verbal expletive coming on here, but will hold that in! Native it seems want to create so much extra work for the artist, making it seem like: 'you must buy this new product! This is bullshit of course because if you do the new install breaks everything! Native you are meant to be helping us create , you corporate monster! In addition to breaking all my beloved sounds years of work etc, Native just keep releasing all these bullshit synth efforts now! They are a load of old rubbish, just padding to cram into their mediocre physical products. Seriously, Native have become irrelevant and II wish someone else would make a player for my sample instruments from the likes of Orange etc. If there was an alternative I'd drop Native like a ton of bricks!
