I liked the musical movie adaptation but....damn this just feels so much more impactful. Shug singing to Celie right in front of a shaken Mister, expressing her love and telling Celie she's worth so much more than she realizes. Don't get me wrong, the song sounds great in the new movie and it's a nice scene but in this version it not only highlights what these three central characters are feeling and experiencing at this point in the movie, it's a turning point for Celie in particular. Finally, someone she cares for is standing up for her, unabashedly showing her care and compassion in front of the very man who's kept her beaten down and is himself deeply in love with the same woman who's basically saying (singing) "You've done this woman wrong and Celie doesn't deserve this shit."
