Hey Dave, your building culture is amazing. You built almost any style of guitar. Starting from Hauser style, to Rodriguez to Smallman and now double top. So, my curiosity is, if you were a concert guitar player, and you had to choose just one guitar, which guitar would you choose to perform? 😅

That's a nice, simple, and inexpensive project. I see it could somewhat easily be scaled for instruments that don't need a rest that tall - electrics, ukuleles, banjos, etc... I'll keep this in mind when I need a neck rest for one of my non "normal" guitars. Thanks for sharing!

My best guitar ( now long gone) was a 1961 Ramirez 1A F 650 MM second owner. Spruce top , cypress backs and sides. Pegs, not tuners. Built as a Flamenco guitar but the finest Classical guitar I ever played/owned. Made by Contreras. Pre cedar and 665 ? MM scale length. Pre plastic finishes. Mine was French polished. I like cedar and spruce. Both make fantastic classical guitars. Nobody can pick out spruce or cedar on recordings so doesnt really matter to me. Cedar is great right away while spruce generally takes about a year to really develop. Most spruce guitars sound totally different in a year...in a good way.

@gordonmacgregor7762 Ай бұрын
Hi David. Thanks for these insights into your guitar construction. I am using your old DVD course to build my own classical guitar using the traditional body/neck joint. However, this has always struck me as strange, as there remains carving work on the neck and it is possible to damage the sides when doing this. Accordingly, I really like your spline method as it allows the components to be finished more easily and better. Two questions: The gorilla glue you use, is it polyurethane glue or standard wood glue. Also, I assume that to ensure side-to-side alignment of the neck, you trim the face of the neck where it joins the body?
@schrammguitars
@schrammguitars Ай бұрын
I have a video that shows me fitting the neck. I think it is the one about neck angle. Yes I use Gorilla PU glue. Traditional method you should not have any issues with damaging the sides. I've never had that issue.
@gordonmacgregor7762
@gordonmacgregor7762 Ай бұрын
@@schrammguitars Thanks David. On the latter point about potentially damaging the sides, please don't forget, you are an experienced expert, I am a humble amateur and the risk is high. That is why I like your spline joining method, because the body and the neck can be shaped and finished independently without any risk of damage. having used your old DVD's as a guide, your construction methods have clearly advanced significantly. It would be good if you were able to put together an new DVD (or KZbin video) to embrace your latest construction techniques. I for one would be happy to purchase such guidance as you somehow manage to make it all look so easy! Additionally, another idea for a video would be your finishing process and techniques. Best Wishes.
