Im a commercial transport mechanic I make $43.00 an hr. Its honestly great money but it is so hard on your body. Be glad if your body can withstand the abuse after 20+years. Your body will deteriorate fast and you'll need to go to physiotherapy a lot! Its just not worth it, I know many guys making $30.00 and less with no stress and great health. imho if i were to turn back the clock i would stay away from heavy duty

If you take a math course with your college prior to entering it will be super easy. If not work your ass off and it will come together. I'm 21 so I did't find it difficult since I was relatively fresh out of high school and I had high academics. There were a few old dogs in my class (40 plus) I I'm writing for my third this week. Being a diesel tech is a bitch at first learning how to trouble shoot, then that becomes easy, then they push you on the time it takes to do the job, pain in the ass, then you get fast and love your job, then years down the line it will start to become boring if your not learning new stuff . My favorite thing about being a mechanic is buying unique tools that make my job easier, funner, and helps me get jobs done faster, it makes me happy, as well as the customer, and the boss.
