Hi there, I need help please. My Reaktor 6 keeps changing my presets/shapshots and the midi controller is hijacking the interface and keeps changing it, how do I disable the Midi controller so it doesn't automatically change my settings?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 4 ай бұрын
You change change which devices are available for input and output by going to the "File" menu and choosing "Audi and MIDI Settings". For a given Instrument or Ensemble, open the Properties panel (F5 shortcut) and choose the "Connect" tab. here you can choose which MIDI device and which MIDI channel will be active. In this way you could control different instruments with different controllers entirely. Or restrict which range of notes each Instrument responds to, in order to do things like keyboard splits. I am not sure how a controller could "hijack the interface" but maybe that will help!

Bro you saved my butt. Been tearing my hair out trying to figure this out for months. Looking through threads on the Davinci official forum and nobody even mentioned this!! SO many confused people. In the Davinci top bar file menu, export project is an easy-to-find option but the export project ARCHIVE (.dra) option might as well be buried in 50 feet of concrete with that right-click option you illustrated at 6:50 . Gotta say it, Davinci is awesome but their file management system is completely deranged. It should be this way by default. Speaking as Captain Obvious here... everything relating to a project should live in the folder with the project. End of. Writing databases in obscure corners of the computer in places where you just will never find them... just no... whose idea was this?? By way of comparison, Cubase (audio editor) makes a copy of all media imported into the project by default and puts it inside the project folder in a folder marked "audio" along with the project file. Bounce the folder to anyone who has the application and they can just load it right up with zero hassle. That is how it should be done. Anyway BIG thank you for this super clarifying video.

I know this isn't necessarily frame accurate, but it's exporting black frames for a second or two at the top of each clip, is this a codec thing?

We have a nas we share by 3 pc and we have a lot of trouble to get an editable archive to get readable by 3 people, I make all database on every client in nas and the media still on the nas, but still cannot share the davinci project clips or the editing that someone do.

Once importing the project back into resolve, if I save, does it save / update the DRA file? Or do I need to reexport it into an archive again to have a new updated version?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 2 жыл бұрын
Every time you wish to move your project from the host computer, you need to export it again. if your media is also on an external drive, all you need to do is save the DRP. If your media is on the host computer and you want to save it, then use a DRP to bundle up all the clips. (Or manually copy the clips.)

What is the reason for using this strange database workflow instead of simple project files like other software?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 2 жыл бұрын
It's required for a production-oriented workflow. A project in Resolve can be shared over a network, with various people working on different aspects of the same timeline.

Hi, thx for the great tutorial. Is it possible to create a project in the Internal Database, but import the footage from an external database? I am trying to avoid holding my clips inside my computer.
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 2 жыл бұрын
Yes! You can keep all your assets on an external drive. You can move this around, from computer to computer. The only difficulty is that when you first launch the project on one of these computers, Resolve will likely lose track of where the media is, giving you red warnings on each clip. This is easy to fix. In the media tab, select all the clips and right-click. You can now specify the folder where the assets live, which will be on your external drive. This will fix all the references and you can continue working. Of course you need to save the project file after each work session. You can pop this on the same external drive. Then, on a second computer, just drag that to the database/project window, or use the appropriate import project command. The project file saves your timelines and every edit you do. It is actually quite independent of your media clips. It just needs a reference to their location. (This is also why proxies can work so transparently.)

Hey Robin, great tutorial. Great content. I'm looking for something similar to this, but would prefer to have the parsing program generate render commands within Resolve directly. The result for me would be 50+ individual renders on the render que, and the results would be frame accurate. I would also want the files put into separate directories with the same name. I might take your scripts, along with Ian Haighy's and build something that does this. I also have separate 'chapters' that I use a marker with a range to define the start/endpoints. I'll look at that output file to see if my markers are accurately described and could be used to generate the render start/end. Thanks again!

What I don't understand is why this "archiving" method is not the default and basic way of managing files. Why is it an extra "thing" to have a project file?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 4 жыл бұрын
There are cases where two parties might already have all the media, and are working back and forth on a project. In that case, perhaps only the project file is enough to interchange. And this file is small enough to send as an email attachment.

Is it possible to setup resolve so that I can just manage projects like I do in Adobe where I have project file and media all in one contained folder on an external drive that I can then connect to more than one computer and edit between machines seamlessly?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 4 жыл бұрын
If you set up the database to point to an external drive, then the project files will be created in a hierarchy there. Likewise you could point the cache to that same drive. However, this would be sub-optimal in terms of performance. First, using external drives is slower than internal. (I only use external drives for backups.) Second, it's best if the cache is on a separate physical drive so that disk IO to the cache and project occur independently. Whether such performance factors actually matter in your scenario depends on many factors, first among them your timeline resolution. Optimisation becomes quite critical when moving to 4K.
@lewisfilms
@lewisfilms 4 жыл бұрын
Robin Parmar thank you robin. Can I put the media files inside the database folder? Or would you advise against that?
@RobinParmar
@RobinParmar 4 жыл бұрын
@@lewisfilms This depends a lot on individual workflow. Often I start a project with tons of clips and other media, not knowing exactly which components might end up in the finished work. I have a drive just for these rather massive files (now that I shoot at 4K) organised by shooting date. At some point in the workflow I will have determined which clips I will use. So I delete unused stuff from the media bins, then save out the project archive. This creates a copy of the media, which might be seen as wasteful. But it's much better to have all the files required by a project in one place. Otherwise, a year or two from now, I risk not being able to find the media I need. This is only one way of working. If I was instead shooting footage specifically for one and only one project, I might instead put all the source clips (used and unused) in the same project folder to begin with.
