I so enjoyed this as knitted a bit more of my second Anniken Kos Brioche Cowl (this one in handspun yarn). I was smiling about the needle sets, project bags, notions, umbrella swifts and ball winders as I very much follow a similar path as you (80s knitter - plastic bags, metal/plastic needles, bits of waste yarn to use as stitch markers or project holders),. I no longer buy the latest fad - some things are really just not going to get used! But one of my favourite forever needs is a trusty notebook and pencil to keep track. I love the Clover row counters you also use but I do love scribbling notes and using 5 bar gate tallies to keep track. Thank you for a joyous reflection on our "needs" ❤

I did not buy one this year the year has been just very busy and I decided I want to try and use up more of my stash. I have had some hits and some misses in them. The ones I have enjoyed the most are ones that had a theme or pattern included. My favourite two were both indie dyers and the project was a cowl. With a few I just put the yarn in my stash and have used it for projects where needed. I am just starting the Speltas shawl with one from last year I am trying to do one colour a day which I am enjoying. They can be costly and I would now only buy from my favourite indie dyers because I know what the quality will be .

@sylvestraborealis8303 thank you 😊 Any laceweight yarn. It'd be beautiful in anything with Alpaca, silk, merino and/or cashmere in it. Either a blend or a pure yarn. You'll only need 28g of each colour so if you have leftovers that may work or a yarn you can but in a smaller skein (25g or 50g). You can use fingering weight yarn too.

Yes, I love knitting gifts for friends and family. Last year I knitted a sleeveless long cardigan for my best friend. She loves black and often wears black colour clothes. Although black is not my favourite colour to knit with, especially in the evening, I really took this project on, as I wanted to make this gift for my friend, something that she wears a lot now. I'm very pleased that she likes it.

I don't think machine sewn is any less ..it's all the love, the thought and the energy when we make anything for anyone to say nothing of the money when it is good yarn or fabric. I won't sew or knit synthetics as a rule. And ....I've seen a skirt I made for someone appear twice on eBay which I flipped into sharing the love and it being valuable enough to move on despite initial rejection. "Do they really/ will they really want it ...?" indeed the ultimate question <3

Good advice. I've been there done that not doing it again. Last gift I did was a few years back. A friend always complained how cold she was in the evenings so I knitted a practical shawl in colours she always wore. In the gift box I put a card in saying "please do not sell on ebay. If you do not like it or finished with it, please pass it on." I never ask about it afterwards as I Don't want to get upset. I love knitting for my family as they do appreciate it.

I've knitted for charity , try to donate each autumn as temperatures drop , homeless shelters , hospitals sending infants home . Have knitted a bed covering for eldest daughter and her husband without asking . They bought their first apt and when she shared photos of her new home I went to work , living so far away , I probably will never see it in person. Anniken, how do the prices for yarn bought in Norway compare to UK prices for similar yarn? Hope your trip goes well and your parents' health is holding up.
@AnnikenAllis27 күн бұрын
@elizabethflicker7674 thank you. I just checked a British website selling the same yarn I ordered in Norway (Rauma Alpaca Silk) & for 8 25g balls it's about £6 cheaper in total with shipping if I'd ordered it here rather than in Norway (wanted it shipped to my parents as i won't have room in my carry on). I thought it'd be cheaper in Norway because exchange rate i good at the moment. Norwegian yarn brands are relatively cheap in Norway compared to imported brands.

I love your videos and have watched many of your newer ones. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the triangular shape of the needle barrel. That’s what is the most ergonomic feature that I can see and what I like the most in the straight needles I have from this brand. I have many really old nylon circular needles with the bit of bulbousness to the tip by Wrights in the US which I find nice when I’m knitting at a looser gauge.

I was just at Michael’s in the US. Starting with the 4.5mm size and up they are a triangular barrel. So we’re both right. I’ve bought the 4.5 and 5mm so I’ll find out which I like better. The package says the triangle shape allows stitches to slide freely along the needle. ( I was expecting it to say that you could grip loosely to minimize hand strain)
