Must have been quite a sight to see that shark come up and eat the rubbish in Darling Harbour; I guess they hang around in there, waiting for a drunken punter to fall in...😆 Right at the end there, just before you enter Central, is a florist shop on the left that's been there for Donkey's years. About 28 years ago, I bought a little cactus in a ceramic boot, for my girlfriend. Next January, we bring up 25 years of marriage, so everytime we walk past that florist, we reminisce.... O'Neill's Buildings in Campbell St housed (from the Fire Underwriters map post 1917) from the left - a Chinese merchants named The Wing Sang Company Limited, Hong Kong Cafe and B Callose and Sons Limited Italian Merchants. The whole building was at one stage Wing Sang and Company, and it was also owned by Sir Samuel Hordern KBE (yes, those Horderns) at one time, not sure of the years though. Before the commercial buildings went up, there were terrace houses along Campbell St, although it wasn't the most salubrious area. Legit business in the front, shady stuff in the back. The area opposite those buildings was formerly The New Belmore Markets. A lot of the market facade was incorporated into the Capitol Theatre.

Hi HW. The birds you were thinking of in the NT were Black-necked (Jabiru) Storks. Jabiru is actually a similar stork from Central/South America. The statues in the fountain are Brolgas, a type of crane. Here endeth the ornithology lesson.

Yep I've seen that flick a few times. Here's a few more for you to watch if you haven't already. The Game, Pacific Heights, Basic Instinct, Blue Jasmine. Not classics, but all offer some great scenery of the City that I look for. There's a bunch more but I can't recall them right now. Invasion of the body snatchers is an old one with Donald Sutherland that has some good shots of the City as well.

Hi HW, It was strange to see Sydney town centre so quiet, but we did see a lot more of the views, and it was nice. I love how the bin chickens delve in to the litter bins and have a snack. It is the same here with the magpies, they love to eat the takeaways from the previous night. The roses were beautiful and I could imagine their smell. A sign of summer in the sir. What did you name your new puppy? Have a good weekend and keep sending us the sunshine. It cheers me up. 🙏

The Martin Place Christmas Tree (you could call it the official Sydney Christmas Tree) will be lit up every night from 8pm to 1am between Thursday 28 November and Friday 3 January 2025. Any time from late November I would expect to see decorations going up.

@@kellygunner7625 We don't seem to have a strong tradition with regards to any particular date. I would say a month out from Christmas, but some do their decorations earlier than that, and some later. Yeah, we stop (or at least many of us do, circumstances permitting) at 11am on the 11th of the 11th for Remembrance Day. We also have ANZAC Day on the 25th of April, which is the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand.

Great to see.your Crow's Nest video,looks really inreresting.My muum loved strolling round the shops and markets much to the annoyance.of my dad who hated shopping.I used to find it boring after a while,prefering to get what i was looking for and then getting out of the crowds as soon as possible .I thought some of the food. and drink prices were really pricey .$7 for a lemonde is roughly around £4 here in the UK.Its a bit chilly and damp here in East Yorkshire in the UK. I don't know much of the prices in Australia, but were the market prices average? The donuts looked very tasty. I like both of the camera filming. @@hwtours Yes, same here in the UK. Diesel used to be cheaper than petrol until the government of the day decided that diesels were better for the environment and so pushed them on us. What happened? The sale of diesels went up dramatically and, surprise surprise, so did the price of diesel. Move on to the coof and the price of both diesel and petrol went down a lot due to everyone being under house arrest. Then we had the tiff between Russia and Ukraine so up it all went again. As did everything else with the blame being put on dear old Vlad. However, in recent weeks we've seen quite a drop in fuel prices but no corresponding drop in other things (mainly food) which, the supermarkets told us everything had to go up due to transportation costs and so you'd expect substantial reductions in grocery shopping. Nope, their still high - but why? Anyway, rant over and onto the Crows Nest video.

Hi HW, Are you feeling better after the tooth extraction? They do say that a salt water rinse in the mouth is a great healer. It is mild here in Yorkshire, with showers. as usual. Christmas is in the shops and on the Internet. Are there many homeless people in Sydney? When I walk around our town centre, there are quite a few of the homeless people sat outside the shops asking if you have any change for them. I decided to watch this video on Saturday morning, as I would have been rushing off to work after viewing the video. Best choice I made. Have a good weekend and get well soon. 🙏

KZbin really are full of contradictions...you spend minutes typing a long detailed comment with no bad words or references, and it gets taken down, yet someone can do a liveshow, and swear & say anything they want, on it. And, have you noticed the amount of soft porn lately on YT ? Young girls doing cleaning naked in bodypaint, or getting their boobs out to demonstrate how to breastfeed with a doll, or trying on transparent wet clothes, and this is all allowed because they insert a disclaimer at the start, saying it's educational or not for sexual gratification. Give me a break ! These get 100k - 1 mill views, for a 2 minute video ! Not that I watch a lot of these... Anyway, YT will probably delete this too !

Great vid ..Our city in Canada 🇨🇦 has a lot of historical buildings as well ..we were the gateway to the West back in 1800s to mid 1900s ..our weather is quite warm still ..supposed to be 22c on Sunday ,Monday but sharp drop Tuesday 8c ..i see the people crossing the light rail tracks ..you gotta be definitely watching where your going because those trains seem to move quite fast 😮

Love the video HW.The weather looks beautiful.Its a very chilly 15°c here in East Yorkshire in the UK.I love all your videos,never been to Sydney or Australia. I like how all your streets seem to be clean.Not like that here in the centre of Hull in the UK its like walking around in a trash can,rubbish everywhere.In the UK a Northwesterly wind is quite a cool direction wheras where you are it seems to be a warm wind direction.I would find that quite strange to hear that a Northwesterly wind is warm.Hope you enjoyed your snack. Yep the Northwesterly sucks in the desert heat from the centre of Oz. Also brings the flies.

Love the video HW,that light railway looks really interesting. If you cant eat due to your tooth what are you living on?Are you sticking to soft foods and soups?If so i feel very sorry for you. Thanks again for the video.Hope you have,some painkillers for your tooth. Best Wishes Hazel.

@@HazelKitching Not much. I dropped into the dentist this arvo to get more painkillers. I was horrified when the dentist put me in the chair and tortured me some more. Think I’ll have some soup when I get out of bed.

Hi HW. The old building near Dymocks was Batemans Crystal Hotel after 1917 (and probably that before then). The old Darrell Lea shop was Belfields Hotel. It also has "(Royal Exchange)" on the map. Maybe a former name?

I found an old photo showing part of the Crystal Hotel from 1901, and it's an old sandstone building. So 1902 would be about right for it's rebuild. It's also been known as The Manchester Arms and the Tatler.

@@HazelKitching I don’t mind snakes. It’s the spiders that freak me out. We have some charming ones here in Oz. Some as big as your hand that sprint like racehorses and others that hide in your shoes and kill you if you don’t make it to hospital in time.
