@denisekohlmann9234 Жыл бұрын
Yes, we had the same thought. She now has a helmet, but getting her to wear it has been challenging. Do you have any tips?
@lizzie_lestrange5895 Жыл бұрын
@@denisekohlmann9234 Yeah, that can be difficult. From my own experience as a child, make sure that the helmet is comfortable. If it is too large, it won’t sit still and be distracting, and if the chin strap is too tight it might feel like it’s choaking her, and too small a helmet is going to hurt, so make sure that the helmet is the right size. If ahe’s wearing a beanie under the helmet, it could feel like it’s blocking her vision even if it physically doesn’t, to help with that you can puah the beanie less far down the forehead. I’m sure that there could be other things that she could find difficult, like the higher point of balance, that you can’t do anything about, but try to talk to her about why she doesn’t wanna wear it. She might not even realize that it shouldn’t hurt, for example, so you telling her how it is meant to feel us important. You could also explain that it will protect her when she falls. All in all, best of luck
@denisekohlmann9234 Жыл бұрын
It’s always been a challenge to get her to wear something on her head. I like your suggestion about telling her how it’s supposed to feel. That’s the only thing I haven’t tried yet that you’ve suggested, so hopefully it will be the ticket! 🤞🏽🤞🏽

@denisekohlmann9234 Жыл бұрын
We tried all the gentle parenting techniques to get her to that point, and ultimately ended up abandoning them and did the Ferber method. Letting her cry was very hard to stomach, but ultimately the best for her and us. It took about 2-3 weeks to get her to the point where she would fall asleep on her own and every night would get a little easier than the last (on the whole). It's totally worth the 2-3 weeks of rough nights (again each night was generally better than the last). She is 3.5 years old now and still falls asleep on her own when we leave the room at night. Good luck to you on whatever you decide to do! :)

I really want to teach my daughter the matching skills and how to pick up toys after she dumps them all out. I need all the tips I can get!
@denisekohlmann92342 жыл бұрын
I like to use modeling and fun for these things. ☺️ If you show them how to do something and then let them consistently see you doing this, eventually they will start doing it too. Toddlers have a very strong sense of order so if you’re constantly modeling for them where things belong and putting things away, eventually they’ll follow suit. So when they’re really little, you model for them. When they get a bit older and are able to follow one or two command sentences, you can ask them to grab a specific item to put away. Then, you can start asking them to help you. And later, you can remind them to put something away as you see them move from one toy to another. That said, I think I need to follow my own advice because I’ve definitely let life get in the way of my consistency and am now struggling to get both my girls (I have two now) to clean up on their own. 🤦🏽♀️ Also, with cleaning, I find that I have more success when making things fun. So try making a game out of it. For matching, I suggest pointing to one object and then pointing to an identical object and say they match. Any opportunity you find to match something, label it that way for them. For example, when getting ready, you can say, “look, it’s the matching sock,”or “here’s the matching shoe.” At lunch you could say, “ look, I have two grapes. They match.” The more often they hear this type of comparison from you, the quicker they’ll pick up on the concept and be able to start matching. I’d also start with identical objects first, and then once they start to understand that you can move on to matching 2D to 3D objects. Hope this helps! ☺️

It's normal, especially boys learn to speak and sometimes to walk later. I could only walk at around 15 months and talk when I was almost 3, but suddenly fluently and with no pronunciation problems. And despite these delays I was never ever behind at school, quite the contrary. How is he now?

Hello! I recently found your channel and I’m obsessed! ♥️ I was wondering if you could make a video on tips on how you got her to crawl and talk early? And how you went about blw? Thank you so much.
@denisekohlmann92342 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm happy to hear you are enjoying my content. I'd love to make a video on developmental milestones and BLW, I just don't feel qualified to advise on such topics at this time. In the meantime, there are some great KZbin channels I can recommend to you that cover these subjects. "Learn with Adrienne" is a great channel for speech development (she is a Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist) and "The Carnahan Family" covers developmental milestones. For BLW, I read the book, "Baby-Led Weaning: Helping Your Baby to Love Good Food "by Gill Rapley. I also referred to a Facebook group I'm in called "Baby Led Weaning for Beginners and Beyond (BLWBB)." Both are really great resources and have guides to help you know how to cut foods appropriately for your child. I liked the Facebook group too because if you have any questions you can ask them directly on their forum that is moderated by people who are very knowledgable on BLW. Some quick tips from me are to help your child to practice, practice, practice! For example: - For speech: narrate everything you do for your child as you go about your day and read lots of books to him/her and point out things in the pictures and name them. - For gross motor (and other) skills: observe your child and give him/her every opportunity to work on whatever skill they are engrossed in at the moment - so for crawling, give them lots of time to work on that skill by giving them free range of motion and keeping them out of carriers, enclosures, and jumpers as much as possible, under supervision and in baby-proofed rooms. - For BLW - have lots of patience and embrace the mess! The more opportunity they have to get their hands dirty, the faster they'll get proficient and understand how to manipulate food/drink to get it in their mouths. Lastly, if you have any concerns about your child's development, I would suggest to speak to your child's pediatrician. You can also refer to the CDC's developmental milestone guide to see if your child is on track and look into early intervention services if you think your child may need some assistance (www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/parents/states.html).
