To be fair, Maverick did a poor job of teaching them it was possible to do. It wasn't until his boss told him, "All you've done is teach them they can lose" (or something like that). THAT is when he decided to do the run himself with an impossible time. He makes mistakes like everybody, but he does learn from them.

I find this book very interesting. I'm going to have to get a copy for myself. Plus, it's nice to listen to Van again. Did he use his own voice recording studio to narrate that? I'm impressed...again.

@@tristangardner3889 thanks, Tristan! Glad you enjoyed it. Van still records in the WHO studio. He goes in about once a month to record promos.

Yikes! Why did the field have that tarp there? I hope he's okay!

I think the tarp was to protect that part of the field before the Royals game. Fortunately, Weird Al seemed to be doing just fine after the spill!

Little unknown fact, Early in his career he turned down a 5 million dollar deal with an alcohol company because he felt his followers were too young to see him pushing the product. MORALS Now you have preformers pushing alcohol, sex, politics, drugs, murder and the list goes on for basically nothing. NO MORALS

Van Harden is, by far, one of kindest people you could ever meet. Seeing how interested I was in radio and broadcasting in general, he and Bonnie Lucas were kind enough to let my parents and me see them in action during their show in August 2008. They did a lot of preparations to make their show as successful as it was, but they made it all look so easy. Van heard my delivery on the radio and thought it was so good, he thought I was going to replace him when he retired, but I told him it wouldn't be the same without him or Bonnie, and at the time I thought I'd stick to reading the news on the radio. But now, I feel like I could be a successful morning show host, too. I remember meeting Van and Bonnie for the first time in the summer of 1997, which was the time my dad was duct taped to the back of the bus live on air. I don't remember what that was for, but I know it was for a worthy cause. Van (along with Bonnie) helped make the morning show on WHO Radio one of the most successful programs in radio history. I look forward to the next time I see Van and telling him all that I've accomplished so far and the many successes I'm looking forward to, whatever they are. Thank you, Van, for entertaining and informing your many regular WHO Radio listeners (myself included) and for being yourself on the radio. You have everyone's eternal gratitude.

I have known Van for over 40 years. He and I were in radio together. We have another friend Ron Kellum was in radio at the same time. Ron is an ordained Pastor. All 3 from the Rock Era (ie Jesus Freak era) of us are sharing the love of Christ as God has called us to do. This is a wonderful You-Tube that really makes sense because it is simple in Truth. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.

I just listened to the story you told during your final show about the impact you had on a coma victim, Theresa and her family. It was a great testament to the fact that God does not make mistakes and nothing in this world is a coincidence. We all are exactly where we are supposed to be and we all have a mission to complete in this life. Each morning is a blessing when we awake and the first thing we should do is thank God for giving us another day. Then we should ask Him to give us a direction according to His will and give us the knowledge and strength to carry out what we are to do. You were fortunate to see the results of your work. Some might never see those same dramatic results. But we should never forget that every one of our actions has an effect on someone else, and we should give each day our best in hopes of making our lives and world around us a better place.
