Nice video. HOWEVER, you said something false by saying OR is not a law, when it IS a law. The law of parsimony as you stated from the beginning. And there's no way to apply OR or use it wrong. Rather, those are cases of MISapplying it or MISusing it. Better yet actually not using it while thinking that you're using it. But thanks for explaining that you must try to gather all facts & evidence beforehand.

Thanks Mike. I only work locally and have a decent amount of five star google reviews. My business is an expensive labour intensive service (not for everyone) making bespoke curtains and blinds and I have a new wordpress site which now I need to ‘optimise’. I have been told to work on the snippet and descriptions and to title every photo I use (easy to right click and add). Is it worth writing blogs any more? I feel you are going to tell me to write a monthly newsletter and send directly to my past clients.. I could, but I hate being so pushy. What to do? I don’t want to attract people looking for cheap curtains. Waste of time.
@MikeGastinКүн бұрын
It may be that you need more of a sales approach, versus a marketing approach. If your business is local I assume you'd want good relationships with interior designers, architects, and commercial venues (hotels, colleges) that use custom blinds. Why waste time trying to draw people to you when you could get a steady flow of revenue from the right local relationships?
@Moonshinebaby1000Күн бұрын
Thanks for the response Mike and what you say is logical. However, believe me I am best off working directly with the client/end user. You can always find cheaper, right? To some people a curtain is a curtain… But no, there are better ways to make them, hand finish them, hang and dress them professionally so they hang beautifully, and use proper metal tracks which require specialist fitters. EVERY time an architect practice has asked me for an estimate it takes forever to do and they go elsewhere or change their minds. I’m not really geared for commercial jobs anyway. Too small. I want good residential jobs where I deal directly with the user as the devil really is in the detail. I have had a couple of jobs handed to me by interior designers.. but often, again, they may well find cheaper and to many budget is paramount. I always insist in dealing directly with the client though a designer can specify what they would like. I am a former interior designer myself so I know how it works. Your newsletter idea is interesting though.- sending a regular email to past clients. Any idea of a good template for that? I suppose the downside there is a client gets annoyed that I’m bugging them (need to offer unsubscribe) or I remind them to complain about something fitted 10 years ago! Do blog posts on websites still count ?
@MikeGastin22 сағат бұрын
Ah! I get it and that all makes sense. I had a client years ago in the custom drapery space, but they did large commercial contracts. Yes, if you did an email, I would keep it simple. A good person on email marketing is Ben Settle. Look him up and maybe get on his list.

One thing I feel like you didn't address is people are still going to search for companies' products and services. Not just branded searches, but also to make decisions on which ones to go with and with new companies, products, and services coming out all the time, how do you expect Google to "not need us" anymore and just create its own content "knowing" which companies, products, or services to recommend? You may argue that Google will just push authoritative brands, but I don't think people are going to always want that. I think with the rise of AI and authoritative brands always being pushed, people are going to seek out smaller, unique businesses in the same way people are seeking out more authentic content through forums, podcasts, influencers, etc.
@MikeGastinКүн бұрын
It's a fair question. Why do you assume that AI won't be able to surface "more authentic" brands or local products and services? You don't think typing "plumber near me" into the Google search field won't result in an AI answer of "Here are three plumbers near you and plumber XX gets the highest reviews."

wrong - you cant state something is a fact when it is not. We are doing fine over here. While SEO may be dead for you, it is certainly not for us. It is maybe dead for you with your apparent limited skill set. Try continuing education instead of whining "this weight is way to heavy.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that Adobe needs more competition but I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this video. Why does anyone need to watch this long-winded speech about your rationale for "leaving Adobe", with no substantial discussion included on what software alternatives you're using, what kind of learning curve was involved, and how effective they have been for you? It doesn't matter if you already put up a separate video about those other topics. That would mean that this speech-video is just click-bait to watch other videos. Why not just join all of the videos together or form a playlist? In case you haven't guessed, your "Leaving Adobe" video popped up in my KZbin feed because I had been looking at Adobe-alternatives videos. This video was my first disappointment. Unlike others, it offered no practical value for me. This is a frequent problem with certain computer geeks with a channel on KZbin: they are so busy projecting a self-portrait of accomplishment and expertise that they forget the viewers may be looking for something of practical value. You want people to understand why you are leaving Adobe? Try showing what alternatives you found and how well they work for you, and what strategy you used to transition away from Adobe. Otherwise, it's just another "I am sick of Adobe" rant.
@wedemannUK3 күн бұрын
Hi, I recently came across your KZbin channel and have been deeply impressed by the clarity and depth of your discussions. As someone who often processes life experiences through words, I find your content incredibly valuable. Your ability to explore topics in depth but also concisely has resonated with me. This message is partially a response to a question you posed and partially a personal reflection inspired by your thoughts. I pre-emptively apologise for the long message, but I hope there is some value here for you. On a personal note, my impression of you, based on about 40 minutes of your videos, is that you have an incredibly well-founded moral compass shaped by deep thought and perhaps a lot of soul-searching. It seems to me that you've refined yourself into someone you are proud to be, and that comes across with your self portrayal. I suspect your upbringing may have been somewhat unconventional, influencing how you see and interact with the world. Whatever the case, your sense of focus and purpose shines through, which I find deeply attractive-perhaps because it contrasts with areas of aimlessness in my own life. To give you some context about me: I’m 32 years old, originally from Brazil, and have been living in London since the age of 12. I share a flat with my partner and brother. Financial ambition has never been a major driving force in my life, so my career has always been a lower priority. I’m currently working as a gardener, but my professional journey has been varied-I’ve worked as a photographer, recruiter, and marketeer, among other roles. I’ve lacked a mentor or sense of purpose to guide me into a particular industry or role, especially after my father passed away when I was just entering the professional world. No specific career path has ever strongly called to me, leaving me increasingly disillusioned by this lack of direction. The question of personal values never strongly occurred to me, but you brought a profound realisation through this video. Where I currently work, there is no solid culture, staff is scattered and often demotivated. The company does not work on staff morale at all, and offering the minimal in terms of benefits as well as salary, they get a very unhappy workforce. This seems to be an industry standard. And it is a shame because gardening has everything to be one of the most satisfying jobs I can think of. My true passion is learning, particularly through auditory means. Recently, I’ve been immersed in history, though over the years I’ve explored many unrelated topics, with the longest-running interest being the philosophy of life-which is why your channel resonates so deeply with me. Despite all this learning, I haven’t yet found a way to fully capitalize on the knowledge and wisdom I’ve gained. Right now, I’m at a point of severe crisis. I feel stuck in a job I have little interest in and am struggling with resentment toward my employer (which is not a position I want be in), largely due to a misalignment of values. Your discussion of the importance of value alignment between employer and employee struck a chord with me. It helped me see the environment I am in, and that the root of my disdain is more complex than I previously thought. This misalignment has opened my eyes to why I feel so disconnected and has inspired me to reflect more deeply on my circumstances. But more importantly, it has given me a tool of analysis for future workplaces. This is a very long message already, so I'll just conclude with profound gratitude. Thank you.

Women want to be mothers but they don't always want to depend completely on men. Men have abused that position too much as I'm sure you're aware. In the 70s some feminists actually argued that men and women could stay in their respective spheres BUT society should pay mothers for their labor in the home. Giving mothers money only they control significantly reduces abuse and allows them and their husbands to quantify the value of their labor at home. At minimum, every SAHM should have a Spousal IRA

6:57 I'd like to add to what you said; Yes, I want the struggle of making Art. But i also want the ease of my tools. I don't want to feel that my tool further hinders my creative process. Making Art is Hard. I want my stone to be hard, not Chisel I will use to cut my vision out from the stone. Good tools leaves a mark that keeps the creative in a driver's seat of their own vision. If you forget what you use when using it to make stuff, it's typically a great tool, i think. Keep the mind in the arts, not the tool you use.
