If this is a demonstration of the workings of a Fontaine 5th Wheel, that is fine. However coupling and uncoupling of the trailers is all wrong.

Beautiful! I like the Fontaine fifth wheels much more than the Jost or Holland.

The way to avoid this is to raise the landing gear 2 inches prior to setting the king pin into the locking jaws you back the truck under the trailer without the king pin engaging the lock jaws and then you raise the landing gear putting the trailer down on the fifth wheel and then you back onto the king pin

Honestly just buy a new 5th wheel.. The whole kit in this video is like $850. New 5th wheel is $1,300 with bushings kit.. Don't risk losing a load or worse..

Free play of what ? Of king pin in the jaw, or rod adjustment? After 250k miles , after coupling a trailer , at the beginning of the movement, I feel a jolt, it looks like the king pin has free movement during braking and starting driving. I put the camera under the king pin and filmed while I start driving, and it showed that the king pin has a movement of about 3-5 millimeters. I have watched all of your inspection videos, I made the adjustment as shows video manual, as well all the parts is sequred , but there is no change. None of your videos mention which king pin backlash range is normal.

Shouldn't all bolts be facing up? The first bolt that was un done was facing down. If the nut came off you would drop the bolt on the road.

If my drivers went threw all this they would be running 3 times later then they usually are. I also would never use a Fontaine 5th wheel, they are a very problematic 5th wheel and I have had them remover from trucks I have bought. Holland is the best out their.
