Regarding vector design software, I can also recommend www.figma.com, especially for startups. At my last job we switched over from Adobe software as it has some great benefits: - it's cloud based, so you don't have thousands of files floating around in some dropbox - you can collaborate in realtime (kind of like in Google Docs) - it's free for teams with up to 2 editors and 3 projects. Even if your company is bigger, you only pay for people who have edit permissions in your team. Every viewer (who can still comment on designs, copy css code or export images) is still free. - it's componend based - build an item once, use it everywhere and once you change the master component, this is applied everywhere where it's used. It even works across components. - you can build interactive prototypes - our clients liked clicking through a design on their own mobile devices even before we started coding - everything's based on vectors - the export can be done in many ways (i.e. one click export of all images in multiple resolutions) Maybe their website even tells a better story than I can. I didn't even mention their awesome new plugin system for getting easier mock data in designs, generated dynamic graphs or check your design for accessibility.
