Oh, dude... It's less of it being needing higher grade drives and more using NAS grade drives. On top of that, understanding CMR vs. SMR. Barracuda drives are not meant for NAS use. You are correct with recommending Iron Wolf drives. You will see people recommending enterprise drives. You don't have to have enterprise drives if you do your research, but it's still a good idea.

Those are desktop drives not NAS drives. You need IronWold or Exos for a NAS as the barracudas are not designed to run 24/7

In my desktop I have one m.2 for win11 and an old SSD for Linux Mint. If I’m only doing email, browsing, KZbin, I’m booking into Linux but if I want to game I boot win11. Linux mint runs more efficiently and doesn’t have all kind of bloat running in the background. It’s free, clean, efficient, secure, and open source.

Most people don’t won’t get nerdy and dive into windows optimization they just want a quick solution like buying hardware, more ram, new SSD. But you can also use none bloated version of windows 11 like.. Ghost Spectre Windows 11 Superlite or Tiny windows 11. You can also use Chris Titus windows utility to remove windows bloat. Learn how to backup your data and then reinstall windows.

The only reason why I upgraded to Win 10 was DirectX 12. There isn't a next version of DirectX in Win 11 to compel me to change!!

Personally not ugrading because it feels like its just an update to the amount of data they collect on me as a user, the ui seems to be deliberately changed to make things more of a pain to go through almost as if the devs themselves dont use windows for simple tasks. I already hated how much they take from me in win 10 but i had to stick with it to play games. Now i have a dual boot with win 10 and linux and im waiting for something good to use to play games instead of Win 10 before i fully switch.

The oracle website is one of the worst for the company they are. I Also couldn't sign up and not because my card was rejected, i could not even reach that point, because the widget they use for the payment leak smemory, and it was filling up all my ram until the browser crashed. I tried on multiple browser and on another computer with 32GB of ram, and crashed also there.

I use windows 7 and only use gift cards, bank at a bank, and on the rare occasion I look at my investments, I boot up TAIL... TAILS? linux My brother's a tech guy. says you gotta upgrade for security.... the gov't already gets around the 4th amendment by buying my data from google et al and I hear about hacks all the time. The only security befit I see is for Microsoft's stock prices. I liked win98. XP was better but they shuffled the GUI around for no discernible reason. windows 7 seemed to lose some functionality while gaining bloat, and this time, the GUI was so scrambled I felt like an 8 year old re-learning how to use my computer, but it's grown on me. Now I hear windows has AI to make my activity easily searchable by the CIA. If they left the F-ing GUI alone I might have stayed a-political as a child and been asleep when they sold my computer to big brother. Microsoft has been pissing me off since they killed DOS. When I replace my 2011 gaming laptop that runs great, it's time to learn linux.

Another way to skirt this is possibly run windows 10 on a virtual machine under Linux and see if you can then run adobe. another thing is Linux is open source and someone creative may develop a way to run adobe via emulator or develop a app that can do all the exact things you can do with as with adobe. it is only a matter of time for this pretty much. someone always finds a solution to such problems.

Really the TPM part only makes sense when you take into account what Microsoft's AI Recall does otherwise it is useless for home users. So for most users it is a useless but required chip as most will not and/or cannot use the feature the only reason I can see TPM being used for is on windows 11 Home. For most users when their computer breaks is when they will get windows 11. As computers can last 5 to 10 years or if you are lucky going on 11 years for my machine the computer will not get replaced any time soon. I think when their machine breaks which selling hardware which breaks in only a few years will make people not go with them so PC prebuilts are made to last 3 to 5 years though with a little tweaking you can extend it to 5 to 10 mostly by getting rid of the bloatware. So computers even the ones you get from the store can last 5 years which is coming up right now though with some simple steps that on not all computers have to be done to have it last longer.

The new processors are not cheap, and you can't force people to spend thousands just to play games or write emails.

Seagates don't last long but I find Harddrives don't always spin down. They keep spinning even if the settings in Truenas are set to make them spin down. I would say ssd's would be better and quieter. Don't keep your NAS near your bedroom. You will never sleep again. As far as Truenas itself I like it. I wish I knew more about it. The operating system looks like you can do alot with it.

Nextcloud is absolute garbage, you can't remove a manager once it has been assigned to a user, on top of that the admin has absolutely no rights what so ever. The administrator is unable to delete or even view any files of the users. Oh and for anyone saying that spying on users is bad, people that have malicious intend will make a plugin to do this so it is not an excuse to not give admins more rights

Win 11 interface - no win 10 start available, otherwise I'd upgrade straight away. The hardware requirements are OK if you delve more deeply, Win 11 compatibility is there, hidden, as far back as the z170 mobo.

I gave up on Seagate hard drives almost 20 years ago. Their failure rate in my experience is way higher than WD. I once had 10 Seagate drives fail in a two week period. The serial numbers were in sequence so to me that sounded like a bad batch of drives which I mentioned when calling for RMA on them. All I got was their spiel on how their drives were high quality blah blah blah and flat out refused to acknowledge a bad batch of drives. The 10 drives were all in separate customer systems so none of them were subjected to the same environment.

Not much profit in it but a good reputation, but if you're like Louis Rossman whose a repair guy who really went into why these fail, or something in tech or whatever, it'll only help in the long run. These companies are sereously losing touch. Day by day I'm starting to notice a good reputation is the shovel in this gold rush.
