those two together is almost the proce of a used PRO 1 🤣 no but kidding aside, there has to be cheaper solution. Like a novation control? Maybe an old BRC2000? Something in the $250-$200 range

if you order a diy kit from my shop to US, the price is 179 $ plus shipping, 260$ for the built unit. I always have some b-stock for less. The Controller has a steelcase, durable ALPS pots, high quality MEC switches and a UV- and scratch resistant PVC faceplate. The first units are in use for over 10 years now and not one of them came back yet with support issues. If money is the factor: get an arduino + some 4051 multiplexers and you have a controller for 20 $ with as many pots as you like. But not everyone has the patience and abilities to program, solder, build a case around and make some graphics.

Can the controller be used in tandem with. A Sequencer ? Like the beatstepp
@stereopingАй бұрын
Sure. Incoming CCs from a sequencer/daw like e.g. #31 for 'tone pitch' or #50 for 'tone decay' are passed through the controller to the ND2. Trigger notes of course as well. All data going into the Controller is carefully merged with it's own parameter change commands and passed to the ND2.

Hey would you know how to change the program presets 1-24 with PC and CC messages? I have a midi controller that I have hooked up to this rack synth and need to crack the code on changing between different presets for my live shows. Thank you!
@stereoping2 ай бұрын
I dont own the TX81Z anymore but it should regularly react to Program Change messages (CC wont be helpful here). If it does not, you might want to check the midichannels of the 81Z and your controller to be identical and also check the TX81Z setting UTILITY / P.CHANGE / off,com,ind ... page 25 of the manual.

@@stereoping okay this helped me along. I can now change the voices with the controller. The problem now is that when I change the voices it takes me out of Performance mode into single. Any advice here?
@stereopingАй бұрын
@@bashrodriguez3790 Not sure. Page 6 of the manual sais "Incoming progranges can select anything; voices or performanc memories". You might want to take a look into the manual page 26 about the program change table where you can assign Singles and Performances to incoming progchanges.

These days (summer of 2024) there is a mint condition Kawai K3m for sale nearby Athens where I live, for 700 euros. Do you think it's fairly priced or a bit overpriced? From what I hear in this video, this should be at around 300-350 euros. Your opinions please..
@stereoping2 ай бұрын
Depending on the condition i would not say it's overpriced, also not cheap, it's ok. You might want to take a look onto the videos publishing date. Around that time i sold mine for 350 indeed. Today the prices are much higher.

Really interesting that works. Most sound card and instrument outputs are ac coupled. So I think you only get the above 0v. Eurorack and volca clock listen for the voltage crossing zero I think. I would have imagined you would need a dc coupled interface to send working clock. Great video.
@stereoping3 ай бұрын
Good point, i should have mentioned the audio interface i used. It's a Scarlett 4i4 which is not DC coupled. But the trigger is just a sample / audio signal and can be considered kind of regular bipolar AC as any other audio signal. DC coupling only starts to come into account in very low frequencies <10 Hz and of course fixed DC voltages. In my understanding the trigger sample contains both: the edges can be seen as high frequency changes (Audio AC) and they are staying on their level for (relatively) quite a long time (DC component). ... but what do i know, i am just a stupid old man :-)

yes, it can. Also works with DX100 and TQ5. Some parameters missing on the TX81Z like Chorus are not supported by the Controller though.

@@stereoping thanks so much. As I wrote to you last night, I came across your website that confirmed my question but thanks for getting back. I might buy the kit if I’m feeling brave enough! I have a DX100 too. Will you ever be doing one for a dx7 or sy77? Now there’s a powerful synth that needs a controller. Many thanks
@stereoping3 ай бұрын
@@theoriginaldanalogue You are welcome 🙂 For the DX family i planned one but canceled the project at 80% finishing state. You might know the last 10% of a project are the worst and most time consuming. I simply lost faith and motivation sorting all these midibytes for all the FM family members. For the SY77 ... surely not. It's always a matter of personal taste about synthesizers but the SY77 (even the 99 which i used for many years) always appeared quite disappointing to me. And so many parameters ... plus AWM section ... i think software is the better choice here.
@theoriginaldanalogue3 ай бұрын
@@stereoping fair enough. Yes I totally get your point. It’s the 80/20 thing where 80% of your energy goes into the last 20%. Well, if you find the motivation to finish it, there’s a real market out there for it as the menu diving is tedious - even with real experience, the dx7 isn’t exactly tactile - but what a great synth. As for the SY, yes that’s like the DX but on steroids. Very tedious to work with. But, I’ve actually heard some incredible things coming out of them. But you need a masters degree to get the best from it. Literally! When I was at university, there was this guy who was working with FM synthesis for his masters degree and what he got out of an SY77 was mind blowing!

@@stereoping I see it now. thanks. how do you change which track it's adjusting, or does it just work on the one that selected on the ND itself? Does this cover every parameter available per track? (I think so?)
@stereoping4 ай бұрын
@@ukbloke28 you switch channels with the buttons in the upper left corner labeled PREV and NEXT. It's shown in the video. Because the Controller does not offer a display, the currently edited track is displayed in binary form. Well, fortunately tracks 1, 2 and 3 are easy to be decyphered. If you have a look onto the channel activity LEDs of the ND2 itself it's easier to keep an overview where you are currently doing edits. I admit it's risky in live situations, a Faderfox PC12 might be the better choice then. 2nd question: If i remember right, it covers all parameters, yes.
