Thanks guys that was a fantastic series, loved the scenery and music. That year i done Millport to Portree & Plockton single handed but in company of another boat from Millport, though he done the Crinnan route and i done the MOK Gigha route and we met at Crinnan. We done most of the cruise motoring as very little wind. End of june to mid july. 2022 we done Orkney both single handed via Crinnan and Caladonia, 37 day cruise. Got to Rothesay in 2023 😂

Thanks for watching. I had great plans for videoing this trip. I had two gopros with me but left one in the car (Doh!). I also had a Sony HD video camera with me but I keep that in a barrel when I am sailing: it's not very water tolerant. I only had a beat up old Huawei phone inside a waterproof case to use on the go. The gopro was on one of those table top stands balanced on the leeboard thwart. It did have a lanyard but I had not clipped it on. (Doh, doh!) You live and learn I suppose.

@charliehitchen52632 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. That is interesting. We ended up here after bailing on a trip on the Teifi due to the levels being too high. Photos I had seem must have been taken in the summer and showed the burns as really dry and so we were surprised that we were able to get the boat into the loch without too much carrying. What time of year did you go? Need to get it penciled in for the new year. With a decent trolley this time!

I think the trolley would have been OK. Steve thought it was sort of suspect before we went. He had lent it to his neighbour to shift some building materials.! My old home-made one would have done the job, I think. Hey ho! Thanks for watching.

love watching you video do you have more - i will be sailing a cl16 (similar to Wayfarer) boat next year and would be very interested to know how you organize your boat for a six day trip - do you always sleep on land?
@charliehitchen5263 Жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, Thanks for watching. Yes we never sleep in the dinghy. Too much like hard work and bloody uncomfortable. If we camp on shore we always get a good night's sleep, we can walk about and explore a bit and we can light a fire which we always enjoy. We generally have a watertight barrel each for clothes and one for sleeping bags and mats. The tent and food are in drybags. We also have a waterproof toolbox that we use for stoves and a small barrel for cameras, phones, etc. You can see the barrels, etc at about 9:30 of this video.kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmmwYaWFaKt0l6c The barrels go in the back locker of the Wayfarer and the drybags go under into the space under the front deck. I hope that this helps. Happy to answer any further questions. Enjoy your cruising.

Is that not Broughtyferry Castle in the first clip. That is on the Tay on the east coast.
@charliehitchen52632 жыл бұрын
Hi Douglas. Thanks for watching. The castle in the first clip is Portencross Castle. This is about ten miles south of Largs and stands at the mouth of the upper Firth of Clyde. There is a corresponding castle across the Firth of Clyde on the island of Little Cumbrae. The two castles originate in the same period though Broughtyferry is a grander affair with the attached fortifications. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portencross_Castle

Cracking scenes there guys and I hope that was a good malt youse downed ☺️ The Birdseye view of glen Callum bay (Callum s hole) reminded me of the evening a few years ago when my mate and I anchored our boats in there and slogged our way to the point you took that photo/video from, just to discover my mate,s boat drifting south out of the bay, we made our way down to the dinghy a hell of a lot faster than going up and so glad there was an outboard on it.🙄😁. If I wasn't restrained in Millport (ferry schedule) I would attend your talk at kip.🏴🏴👍

Been enjoying many of the videos you've uploaded recently! I currently own a wayfarer and am looking into a swift 18... Would you rate it as a decent upgrade? I'm keen for the security of a keelboat but want something that would still be easily trailerable, they look like a good option...
@charliehitchen52632 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The Swift was a good boat for us and we did some adventurous stuff in her. She did not sail as well as the Wayfarer and we tweeked her quite a bit to make her sail better. Build quality was excellent though. We kept her for three years and went on to buy another Wayfarer and a 27ft yacht. Remember that the Swift is only an 18ft boat. You still need to pick your days and stay on the side of caution. Enjoy your sailing.
@mbailey99552 жыл бұрын
@@charliehitchen5263 Thanks for the advice Charlie! Interesting that you ended up going back to a Wayfarer, perhaps I'll stick with mine a little longer, stop window shopping and save some money for actual adventuring😄
@charliehitchen52632 жыл бұрын
@@mbailey9955 The Swift sailed like a dog when we first bought her. We set the mast up correctly and that was better. Next we raised the motor in the well which pulled the prop up behind the stub keel. Much better! She was great downwind particularly with a kite we bought in a boat jumble; decent off the wind; pretty poor upwind in anything like a chop. Then she would fall off the waves and she needed some motor to keep her on track. I guess a few micro yachts have the same failings. We don't regret having bought her and she never let us down.

Thanks for watching and your positive comment. We like a bit of Van Morrison too. Some people say that they would prefer the "natural" sound rather than music. The sound recorded by an old waterproof video camera is so poor. In any sailing setting, the sound is like a rhino rolling around in a giant bowl of natchos!
