Great music and video footage of what has to be among the highest selling 20th century compact trucks, the Chevrolet S-10. Kudos to Isuzu, who in the late 1970s, sold Chevy its compact truck, that General Motors sold as the Chevy LUV, before designing the 80s Chevy S-10. I reckon the stock Chevrolet S-10 is by no means considered a serious off roader, but with some friendly help and seriously good driving, it exceeds expectations.

I've seen a lot of people weld the sliders to the body and the frame. Won't this rip the body apart when the frame flexes? I'm getting ready to make my own and it's another easier to weld to the body
@BackyardBuilder513
@BackyardBuilder513 26 күн бұрын
It will actually add a lot of rigidity to the entire chassis and prevent the body from flexing as much. That's part of the reason you weld it as much as you can to the body and not just the frame

impressed with the 3.0 diesel on such a heavy axle set? read somewhere that the dodge aam1150 was ratted at 800lbft thru a 14:1 gear ratio, 3000 pounds into the pinion makes them hop and kick a bunch, but that's a traction thing so the falling weight of the cab gets the tires to grab more. tho now i got the idea to convert a rack and pinion steering system into a hybrid drag bar, adding bushing tabs to the tie rod end links for a joining bar like on the front one ton axle. rebar cladded with E11018 with a straightened coil of 1/2" SAE9254 beside it. MIG wire being 100ksi makes welding cast steel a process... as those old stick welders ran over cast iron with E6010 for some time. tho those SAE9000 and 12.9 steel alloys take a solid 12kw on a 1/8th stick. that would put 035 wire at 380~400 inch/minuet.

If you do the ASTRO steering box, make sure you plate the frame on both sides. I ripped the bolts through the frame 30 miles in the woods. Over build when it comes to steering don't make my mistake

That’s interesting that you had to cut the radius arm bracket was your kit not for 05+ front 60? I didn’t have to do that with my wfo radius arm kit mine had a cap on one side of the link bracket and open on the other so you run the plate facing up on the top link and facing down on the bottom link, it made for a good spot to run a bump stop off of.

Sweet build, love it :) But, the OM617 is likely going to disappoint spinning a tire that large, I found mine with a Dieselmeken pump and HE221 turbo to be barely adequate on 32's Enjoy the build :) but I'd recommend not spending the 2k + on the pump, mine dyno'd at 113 rwhp and 215 TQ with the fancy parts lol. The highest dyno result I've seen was still in a Mercedes at 148 rwhp and 230 ft/lbs. To do it over, and I am, I wouldn't even use the engine, but if you already have it, just delete the ALDA and use it as is. It does make very cool noises.

Love the build! I have had many S-10's over the years. I made 2 convertible s-10's, I put a small block in 1. I've had 2 4dr Blazers. I've never owned a crew cab though. My plan was a crew cab s10 and find a donor long bed truck and cut the frames on both and make the crew cab a long bed. Also I'm into VW TDI's. A TDI swapped S-10 crew cab long bed would be cool!

I'll definitely take a look. I've had my eye on a Compushift standalone for the 4L60 and then the engine I want to run (OM617) is fully mechanical. But I have a little while before I get to the more complex stuff with the engine swap and making the interior bits all work
