Here in France, the French have a preference for British English in general. But, also in general, the French never learn to speak English well enough to have an accent than one could call American or British :) Whether or not they know it, their accent usually sounds more American than English, probably because the British R and many of the British dipthtongs are harder to pronounce than the American equivalents. Most French can pronounce an American monosyllabic "No," for example, far better than the British "No," with up to 3 or for different vowel sounds!

Wish someone would write a book analogous to the classic book for (English-speaking) Spanish learners called: Breaking Out of Beginners Spanish (where of course the word ‘beginners’ should be replaced by the word ‘intermediate’). For some reason, for Italian (compared to other comparable ‘popular’ 2L languages) there’s currently just not enough a) upper intermediate/advanced and b) colloquial materials, in either book form or on KZbin …

Un argomento veramente eccellente .. I am inspired to talk about this to my own students of Italian here in Delaware! Grazie mille, Tom!

"In tutti i luoghi e in tutti i laghi" non è una vera espressione italiana per ora, ma va bene come citazione scherzosa della canzone, per quelli che la conoscono.

Hey Tom, nice to see you again!🤗 I’ve been following you for close to 10 years. Back then, I wanted to learn Italian when I was planning to travel around Europe. I was so glad that I discovered you. The Italian that I learned from you was enough for my trip. I just want to let you know how much I appreciate the work that you have done. It helped me a lot. I enjoy listening to you and repeating after you, that’s how I learn from you. Your voice is really pleasant to listen to, and you speak with such clear enunciation. Your pace and style make it feel so relaxing and enjoyable. Listening to you is a real pleasure, learning different languages is fascinating on its own, but learning Italian with you is especially enjoyable. Thank you so much, Tom! Thank you for your unwavering efforts over all these years. You deserve many many more subscribers. I wish you happiness and great success in life!🙏😊

Native English speaker here. Gradually learned Spanish over time because of family and lots of people around my neighbor mostly speaking natively Spanish. I am not sure I think I am between a B1 and B2 in Spanish, due to the fact that I can speak the language well, but I am not the greatest writer in Spanish. Anyways, I am now learning two languages at the same time. Started learning Greek about a month and a half ago and afterwards began learning Italian. Love Greek but the experience can be painful when learning, it's a beautiful language but it's complicated and takes lots of time to wrap around your brain. Italian on the hand I am finding to be easy, Italian feels like a cloned language of Spanish. So, I think picking a hard language and an easy language helps out a great deal especial if they are both very different. Thank you for the video!

Very good french indeed and, as my italian teacher said, you start to be fluent in italian when you start to use your hand when you spoke. ;-) for myself, it is the "verbi reflessivi" or the pronominali one that are causing me problems

Thank you Tom, this is exactly my problem. When I started learning I would speak freely and be unaware of the errors I was making, but I was understood well enough. Now I understand much more grammar I become paralysed with the fear of making errors, or I slow down to a stop whilst I process all of the grammar!

Proprio così, Tom. Prima che parlare bene, si deve parlare. Gli errori, esitazioni e, a volte, le sostituzioni in Inglese sono le mattonelle con cui costruiamo il sentiero.

I'll say it in english so everybody understands. YOur english is just perfect and what amazed me even more is your pronounciation. If I didn't know you are italian I would say this is an american guy. AMazing, I'm wordsless. You're just great. With this being said, I would like to say that in your interesting videos, you rightly talked about dialects, but you never mentioned the LANGUAGES. Like my Genovese, like Napolitan, Like Sardinian (the closest to Latin!) The Friulian, the Venetian, etc etc etc. AND their dialects. So their varieties, example for Liguria, where there is Genovese Ligurian, Ventimiglioso, Sanremasco, Monegasco, the language of Monaco, which on the other side it's very close to Sanremasco, etc etc. Long live the dialects don't get me wrong. But possibly even more the languages, that with "italian" they have all developed locally from MEdioeval LAtin. And they have / they should have the same identical dignity of "national" Italian, but on the contrary we are losing them. And we are losing an IMMENSE RICHNESS. You are doing a great job!

Ciao. "Ci equilibriamo" in realtà non si usa comunemente. In riferimento, poi, alla pronuncia, è ottima, per la perfezione basta accentuare la "q" che tendi a pronunciare leggermente più come una "c" che come una "q". Comunque è una sfumatura.

Well, I only use the Passato prossimo if the past event is still influencing the present (the prof has written something on the board - and it is still there), if I mention a time frame that is not over yet (e.g. today, this year) or if I say that I have not done something yet. In other cases, I would always use the Passato remoto. Why? Because I find the Passat prossimo very boring since I do not want to repeat always the auxiliary verbs avere and essere...
