Thanks for your query. Selection of PIG depending on the service, type of pipeline (Metallic/ non metallic, coated or uncoated etc. ) purpose of the pigging - many factors. Generally, during construction of pipeline, we use the pig for- 1) cleaning the pipeline (Hard foam Pig with or without Metallic brush, Disk - bi or unidirectional pig with CS brish installed. 2) For filling Water 3) for dewatering, swabbing the pipeline after hydrotest, 4) For mothballing the existing pipeline (cleaning the service waste, 5) For introducing Nitrogen, dry air for lay up to protect the hydrotested pipeline till commissioning, 6) while introducing the service gas or liquid to remove the air/ nitrogen from the pipeline completely or as much as possible.. Actually, when ever you will be exposed to the real work - you will have more detailed knowledge gradually.
