Thank you for this video. I drove 75 miles one way on Friday to pick up a Singer 600! It looks exactly like this one but says Auto-Reel instead of Touch & Sew and the serial number says made in 1963. I cleaned and oiled it and it sews great. Apparently I need to find out what to use to lubricate the gears since it said NO oil. Since my Singer 417 that is mint green and LOOKS like a Touch & Sew but uses the standard bobbins and thread holder is vertical has nylon gears, I never had a need to lubricate gears. I've had it since I was a teen but in 2011, got a Golden Touch & Sew 750 (ALSO made in 1971) at a yard sale. I think the gears are starting to go out on it which is why I was on the lookout for the original Touch & Sew with metal gears. Yes, I have more modern machines, I was gifted an inexpensive Brother, I bought a Brother Sew/Quilt machine with lots of fancy stitches, and I bought a Singer HD110 used but NOT really used since most of the packages of accessories including the quilting table were still sealed and only one bobbin had thread! But NONE of these let me adjust the presser foot to sew on something thicker and quilted and if you sew fast on them, thread gets wrapped around something! All my other machines won't let the presser foot up high enough to get something thick under them and when I do, it skips stitches but not the Touch & Sews and 417. Only thing wrong with my 600, the light doesn't work and so far, I can't get the bulb out, think they let it get too hot. I'm grateful for your video, let me know that to the LEFT the light is off. If it isn't working, I don't want the machine to be trying to turn the light on. One question, HOW do you turn it off? There seems to be no on and off switch, on the comments, you told someone it is above the stitch adjustment which I guess is the switch that turns the light off and on. But no matter which position, the machine is still "on". My other two, one side is fast, the other slow and the middle is OFF but no where I slide this switch is it off. I guess I'll just have to unplug each time but I do like to turn it off so I don't accidentally step on the pedal and sew something I don't want to sew!

Check out my community tab of my channel here on KZbin if you want the manual that's available online. Not always able to share links in comment sections. I recently got this same model and the owner provided the link. Hope this helps anyone in possesion of this model and does not have instructions available.

Mine is 1926 in a Model 40 cabinet, beautiful machine, i’m just reviving it, seems in perfect working order, so exciting. Note: When you run the bobbin winder I believe you need to loosen off the wheel so the needle doesn’t go up and down.

what is that metal piece on the right side?
@letlineebay75868 ай бұрын
The black shiny metal piece? It’s for the machine cord so it doesn’t get caught between the machine and the cabinet.

@monicabartlett6112 Жыл бұрын
depending on your model, the bobbin wind button can be found either to the right (below the stitch length lever OR inside the bobbin compartment). It may look like a target. I had a 600e that was missing the plastic target looking part, I used a chopstick to depress it. when you slide the plate closed it disengages the mechanism. Hope that helps

Pull the bobbin slide plate toward you, push the bobbin button down (it will stay down). Then press the pedal (as if you were sewing), the bobbin will be filled with the thread from the top. It's quite amazing.

Since no response, the tension wheel on the top right is part of the rolled hemming kit, box was on the left. It is threaded prior to lower looper thread path to increase the thread tension to roll the fabric.

II hate this machine! Nothing logical about programming, NOTHING! Needles break at the slightest button change. There is no emoticon on any of 3 cards that shows a SPACE between words. Should be so simple! I wasted $2400 on this thing. Maybe it’s only about embroidery, unfortunately I expected it to also SEW. I hate it.

My mother bought a Singer 319 new in 1955. It was the top machine Singer was marketing at that time. This machine has made many hundreds of garments and home decorations in his life and (because of proper care) he is still sewing strong! Mom gifted this machine to me when I went to university so it hemmed many a dress, jeans, sewed many costumes and repaired more garments one could imagine to count. I have several other machines, all computerized, but I have never allowed myself to part with my Singer 319.

@susiemiller39342 жыл бұрын
I have the Model 645, also I cannot get it to sew. It must be a bobbin problem, the two threads must not be catching to hold each other together. I just pulled this old machine out today, if i find anything out I will put that in a reply. Will probably have a local singer dealer look at it.

I ordered new "high quality" Singer gears and they did not fit the #640 shaft..Getting them repaired is nearly impossible. I have a pristine #600 that sews very well. The #640 was recycled !!!

The on/off button is the top right button/switch above the lever that adjusts the stitch length. Hope that helps.
