"Traffic at Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, was “very restricted” due to a fire that broke out in the Loures area, a source from NAV confirmed to Notícias ao Minuto . The airport was without landings or take-offs for half an hour, due to the aircraft fighting the fire in that area. The proximity of the aircraft to the airport runway caused the disruption, explained the same source. During this period, at least 20 flights diverted to other airports. NAV added, at 4:40 pm, that the runway reopened and flights will be back to normal very soon. It should be recalled that the fire broke out at 2:47 pm in the town of A-dos-Cãos, in the parish and municipality of Loures. At 4:15 pm, the fire occupied more than a hundred operatives, around 30 vehicles and four aircraft. At the time, a source from Civil Protection told Lusa that at that moment, “the resources were considered sufficient” to control the fire, which was put out before 5 pm. These disruptions occur on a day when there are no landings or take-offs at Porto airport, due to construction work."

don't know why airline companies still have flights from Porto to Lisbon and from Lisbon to Faro, the cities of Porto and Lisbon and Lisbon and Faro are more faster to reach by car or train instead of flight. I mean in flight you have to be at airport 2 ou 3 hours earlier for get a 30-40 minute flight but it's like 2 or 3 hours in airport before the board on flight, etc. Here in Portugal only flights between Porto and Faro are worth due to both cities be so far from each other by almost 7h by car or 12h by train.
@WarBird0154 ай бұрын
Most of short flights are connecting flights, so it doesn't matter if they are worthy or not. In that case short flights are very useful to get easily transferred to long haul flights at Humberto Delgado or Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. And there are no flights from Faro to the Azores as I know.
@BirdsEyePortugal4 ай бұрын
For International flights it makes sense to arrive 2-3 hours before. Domestic 1 hour is fine.
@tiagofilipe65924 ай бұрын
They have flights because there are clients. By car is indeed faster, but by train is similar time and they have different departing times, and there's also connecting flights. By car is also more expensive if you have to rent, pay gas prices and tolls along the way. Outside of highways it would also be slower by car compared to plane. You also don't need 2 or 3 hours time for national flights if you aren't passing customs and have already checked-in. 75 to 90 minutes would be okay.

I flew on one in 1994, when we lined up to take off I was looking at the flaps and noticed they were not set! Then the buzz saws came up, and I was like WTF? No flaps? Well, that this took off like a rocket! WOW, What a Ferrari that this was.

Heard the one about the ex Luftwaffe pilot giving a talk at a genteel girls' boarding school in the 60s? There were giggles every time he said 'Fokker'. The teacher in charge eventually interrupted to tell the girls that 'Fokker' was the name of a German aircraft whereupon the guest speaker enthusiastically responded, "Ja - oder dese fokkers vere Messerschmitts!!"

A zero flaps takeoff using quite a lot of the runway. Quite a daring and brave thing to do. Any Fokker 100 pilots here? Is this normal procedure? What is the max load, zero flaps takeoff speed versus the maximum rated tire speed?
@russelllindsay27022 жыл бұрын
Hey- I was a passenger on a Fokker 100 in Australia on Friday and we took off no flaps. It surprised (worried!) me, but I googled it afterwards, and it’s normal for the Fokker 100!
@frinkie Жыл бұрын
Maximum tyre rotation speed is 195kts, flap 0 rotate speeds usually top out around 145kts for the F100, less for the F70.
@blackmail891 Жыл бұрын
I have done flap zero T/O many times, on a runway 2000m plus it is not performance limiting, the advantage being increased climb performance in the second segment.
@chris22capt10 ай бұрын
Zero flaps on F70/100 is like using flaps 5 on 737 or flaps 1+F on A320. That's the normal takeoff config. Flaps usually used on short runway.
