There seem to be two releases of The Violin Trio…the one relased in 1975 has this piece but the other release from the early 80’s does not have this piece…any ideas?

The so called Five Speed in this Varnam is actually - 1st kaalam and the second kaalam is nothing but the Tisram of the 1st Kaalam.The 3rd Kaalam is our traditional 2nd Kaalam and the 4th Kaalam is the Tisram of the 2nd Kaalam. Therefore 4 Kaalam speed in this Varnam is not actually the Traditional 4 Kaalams. This was demonstrated by a Thavil Vidwan during my younger days. If you want to check the veracity of my Statement, please consult a competent Mridangam or Ghatam Artiste , he will clarify my statement.

The Venue is the Rt.Honble .Srinivasa Sastry Hall , Mylapore where many doyens of the yesteryear Carnatic Musicians had adorned the dias. Had the good fortune to listen to the greatest Vidwans like DKJ, MDR, Voletti Gaaru, KVN, Flute Ramani, TNK, Violin Everest M.Chandrasekaran ,MSG, TVG and the list will go on and on .. Oh, those Golden days.

Excellent composition on Guruvayoorappan in Karaharapriya composed and sung by the composing vidhushis themself Gan Saraswathy and Sangeetha is very good. Beautiful chittaswaram is an added attraction to the song.

This is 3-in1 Violin, means One sound played by Three. Out of the Three, I would Rate Shankar as most talented and versatile and then Subramaniam who went world wide and Vaidyanathan who went into cine Music and Spoiled his career and vidwath. Nothing is Heard from Shankar in India.

I was 13 something, year was 1976-77 I don't remember, Violin Trio "Mikeless Concert" at Old Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha Hall, VR Pillai St, Triplicane Madras. I was learning Mridangam from my Second Guruji, Sri.TR Harihara Sharma ( my first Guru was Sri S.Venkatrathnam, SV as he was called in Critic circle and he was a disciple of Tinniyam Venkatarama Iyer) and TRH mama took All the students to listen to this Concert but we were seated 15-16 rows behind...But we could hear every note and every Sollu and we were all just mesmerized and that day I realised This is The Real Mridangam Playing and nothing else. Then I learnt from Tanjore Subramanian sir and later from Palghat Raghu sir. And till date I am unable to accept any other forms or Bhani as my favourite or acceptable format. I also greatly adore PSP sir's melody and Ghumikis...

Raga Bhairavi and the Viribhoni varnam are immortal pieces. What an exposition on violin by the three brothers in all the kalams.The Bhairavi varnam is supposed to be a very difficult item to play or sing .Pleasure to listen this immortal varnam.

Varna usually is for practice... Not for entertainment. Raga bhava can be seen here and there. But here every note I can see Bhairavi flowing .....
