They went from for sale in late 2023, to "we purchased cowan" in 2024. That's wild

That's far too much debt for Schneider to take on. They'll probably be history in five years.

Well management is going to pat themselves on the back, and give themselves another huge bonus while their drivers are still making pennies on the dollar. I feel like these companies can pay drivers more than 60 cents per mile if they have the ability to spend hundreds of millions on deals such as this.

What? "Schneider is a publicly traded company"... When did that happen? I used to work for Schneider back in the early '90's, and back then it was a bragging point that Schneider was privately owned by the founders son. Schneider and JB Hunt were the largest OTR carriers in the U.S. Yes, that was 30 years ago and yes, I heard about the passing of Don Schneider some years ago. I also heard that his family didn't want to continue running the business. These reasons do not explain why the first or second largest OTR carrier would become publicly traded.

@43McLovely-2 After being there 11 years that's how I lost my job. They rented a drop lot from another trucking company. I walked in there office on a Tuesday and secretary said sorry to see you go. I said sorry to see me go I'm not going anywhere. She said Cowan ended there lease for drop lot because they lost contract for company I was working out of. I called my dispatcher and asked are they closing this yard terminal, he said no. Where did you get that from we are here to stay. That Friday came they said make sure you clean all your stuff out truck. That Saturday they had a bunch of driver ride up from Baltimore and took all the tractors. That next Monday they told us terminal was closed but we could keep our jobs if we drove to another terminal that was 1½ hours away. I was a local driver then. Driving 3 hours to and from work after doing a 12-14 hour day every day wasn't happening when gas prices were $5.00 a gallon. I asked them could I just take my tractor home and they said no. So all us drivers filed for unemployment until we found something else. After working for them a 11 years they denied our unemployment claims. I filed against it and won because any job that moves 45 minutes away was considered hardship miles and they didn't give us 30 days notice that terminal was closing. Cowan treated us like a stepchild. 😡😡😡😡😡😡

I went through all the b/s required to salvage my CDL with SAP and Clearinghouse getting a violation in 11/2021 over 3 yrs ago. Now after all the expense, stressfulness, and misrepresentation. I can’t even find a decent company willing to hire me. As soon as I mention clearinghouse or SAP Program they avoid me like the plague. I have several years experience with no moving violations/accidents, every possible endorsement, running reefers in 11 western states. I can’t even find someone to at least give me a list of SAP friendly companies willing to give me a chance. The SAP Counselor stated once I complete the RTD and stipulated random drug tests everything will go away like it never even happened. I beg to differ it’s been 3 year’s ago. I found out once completed it’s 5 year’s from date of initial violation, so I still have 2 more year’s before it’s gone. All I want is the opportunity to RTD (return to duty) being eligible to operate having completed the process. Instead I’m waiting 5 years to get hired probably because insurance companies don’t want the trucking companies to hire us. Regardless of DOT/Clearinghouse rules and regulations just try and get a decent driver job even though with completion you’re deemed able to return to service. Prove me wrong and would somebody at least tell me where I can find a list of companies that will hire ex-SAP drivers! Thanks G. Wright #N0770229

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 I worked 11 years at Cowan and we had about 500 drivers then. It was like family but the bigger it got the worse it got. Back then you were known by your name then you were just known by a number. They did a lot of family stuff, they would rent out whole Cal Ripton baseball field. Whole family could come and they would have team baseball games, haunted house, free food, crabs, shrimp and beer. The bigger they got it all ended. They bought new trucks every three years and had contract with Volvo & Peterbilt. They would get new trucks under there Cowan leasing company then lease trucks back to company. I know Mr Joe Cowan is rolling over in his grave that they sold company.

I work for Contract Freighters Incorporated CFI. AND Heartland Express bought us as a sister company but controls the purse springs and policies are changing left and right even though we are supposed to be our own entity. So I wouldn’t trust them as far I could throw them. And we are leaving CFI in 3 days to go somewhere else.

its just a bunch of investors trying to buy out as many trucking companies as possible to be the biggest transport in America. more money for investors, nothing big for drivers I know the feeling. Schneider is known for their “Dedicated Accounts” and they over estimate the pay you will earn vs reality of what’s deposited. Hopefully Cowan will continue on with Cowan ways of driver earnings, logistics, and schedules. If I were CEO of Schneider I would be concerned about Cowan or Schneider drivers unionizing when said drivers are not paid well at or above yearly compensation national averages.

Almost every time a mega-carrier buys a smaller competitor, the world changes and everything goes to crap. I went thru that eight years ago. I left shortly after, along with 85% of the rest of the company employees. Took less than six months for everyone to get gone.
