Tahu, I appreciate your wonderful interpretations and explanations. Very sensible, clear, reasonable, but revealing in a rather haunting way. The idea of an unconsciousness which influences our compositions is compelling. It is not enough to say music represents the emotions. It represents the unknown, unseen forces that excite the emotions. Instead of asking of a composer, "What was he thinking?" we now must ask what was making him think that way! I must also do the same with my music - revisit it and ask, "Where is the unconscious signature of this piece?" Well done, Maestro. Thank you.

You're not in the minority. You just happened to be in an echo chamber of Sarah Brightman fangirls. I'm pretty sure my email address is in my profile. If you want I will send you a full audio of her in the show. Just shoot me an email and remind me you're from KZbin. There have only been minimal clips of her vocals because she is absolutely awful in this role. She spoke her way through the entirety of the lady's paying. The rest of the cast saying their lines and Sarah just talked her way through the entire song. It was absolutely pathetic. Not since David hasselhoff did Jekyll and Hyde has there been such a musical theater abortion staged at this level. It's a shame because the rest of the cast is stellar and her presence absolutely drags down the production

@@chrisjacobs7417😂I also recorded this. As they won’t allow any videos. I’m a fan a Sarah though but that thing the whole nine yards of crews plus the fans are all snobs 😂😂😅😅 That she didn’t come out at all like Tim and Ashley and Max and didn’t even bother to show like Sylvie on the photo booth 😂😂 wtf Anyways I must be so used to her singing but listening to the audio, she put a lot of Sarah in the mix. I’m so used to her “acting” it doesn’t bother me one bit. But then again the rest of the musical cast did well enough for me.

@@arah6783 I thought the rest of the cast was excellent. The major flaw in this production was Sarah. Sarah Brightman is very good at playing Sarah Brightman. That doesn't work for Norma Desmond. And for better or worse the success of the show lies with the actress playing Norma. It's the story of A dethroned silent movie queen. If that character isn't believable it doesn't matter how good the rest of the cast is. That being said, I've been obsessed with this show since I saw it in Los Angeles with Glenn Close when I was 13. At this point I have seen more productions than I can count. I've got a pretty incredible Audio and video collection of this show as well.

@@arah6783 its her style of singing. She has had bad technique ever since and playbacks a lot. I think she could sing musical style well actually of she did it right but at this point there's no hope. Shes nasal and heady and uses that half operatic style to compensate

I think it would make more sense to sing operas in the local language, here being english. Opera shouldn't be geared towards niche audiences, it should be for the general public. I love Italy and its influences but I think even Puccini would prefer his work to connect with local audiences without having native english speakers sing in italian to a largely native english speaking audience.
@LeonorFiniCat
@LeonorFiniCat 6 ай бұрын
Opera usually has surtitles to translate what they're singing. I have seen many operas in languages I don't speak and understand them fine. Puccini was written in Italian, there is nothing wrong with it being performed in Italian. It isn't "niche."
@BlueKazoo4
@BlueKazoo4 6 ай бұрын
@@LeonorFiniCat I do like surtitles, removes the need for a liberetto. But I do humbly suggest that there is something wrong with disregarding local language. Do you honestly believe professions of love and the telling of jokes really have the same impact when they are communicated orally vs via translated text? English used to be more normal, Australian legend Donald Smith used to sing most of his roles in english. And do you really think the words 'sung in italian' appeals to as many Australians as 'sung in english'?

You will never get a revival of the original production. There was not a single company of the original production that made back its original investment, despite running 3 years on Broadway and 4 years on the West End. The London production lost money, the Broadway production lost money, the Canadian production lost money, the Australian production lost money, the German production lost money, and the first US tour was a financial disaster. Those are six reasons you will never see the original production restaged

I saw this at the Sydney Opera House the other night. The opera itself is very good and well worth seeing at some time. However I dislike Lindy Humes direction. Opening scene Ilia wanders among strung out homeless junkies. Thats what they looked and acted like. There was a dearth of costumery. Although set thousands of years ago, with a few exceptions the cast wore ordinary modern street clothes. It looked like a rehearsal. Also Idomenate can be played by a tenor instead of a woman imitating a castrato. Instead of a dashing prince we got a 15 yr old whose testes hadnt dropped. Very lacking in appeal. The laser visuals were excellent and the singing also. May I also add Australian audience s are awful. This was one of the worst i have ever endured. Someone coughing is taken as a signal that its time to cough for everyone. It passes around the hall like an echo. People were also dropping things, rustling packets and talking all through the performance. Although as I mentioned the Opera itself is most worthy, I began to seriously consider, instead of paying to go see a low grade version in the company of ill mannered boors, next time i will stay home and youtube a version that understands glamour and doesn't want to force intersectional politics on its audience.
