What happens after the first year when you take 30% depreciation
@thomascastelli18 күн бұрын
The remainder of the building and its components will be depreciated over their depreciable lives. You'll still get some depreciation in Y2, etc, but it won't be as big as the first year.

Can you run a short term rental from long distance & still claim material participation?
@thomascastelli21 күн бұрын
Yes, it is still possible. Usually, by setting up the property, managing the bookings, and coordinating with cleaners and repair teams.

Can depreciation recapture net against unallowed PAL?
@thomascastelli3 ай бұрын
Yes, passive losses (PALs) can offset depreciation recapture from a passive activity, such as a rental property.

I've seen other CPAs on blog posts write about a strategy to sell your primary residence to your Scorp, collect the tax free capital gains, then rent out the property. Any thoughts on this?

Under the regular method, can you start depreciating the home to the extent allocated to the home office? And would you treat it as 28 year residential property? Can you maximize the deduction with a cost seg study even if the faster lived assets are in other parts of the house? And can you claim 60% bonus depreciation on the portion allocated to the home office in 2024?
@thomascastelli3 ай бұрын
@mldu2010 This is generally how it works: - Depreciation is allowed on the home office portion, and it follows the 39-year straight-line method for business property. - Cost segregation can potentially accelerate depreciation, but it must be for assets within the home office space. - Bonus depreciation at 60% in 2024 could apply to new assets or improvements placed in service in the home office

This is absolutely ridiculous. You're an idiot if you think this won't trickle down to people making $100k. It always starts high and quickly finds everyone.

Hears a question who checks the IRS taxes to make sure they have the numbers right. Wouldn't it be conflict of interest to have the IRS go over their own taxes. And is the IRS taxes on the income they receive from taxes because that's probably billions in taxes

Say bye bye to large companies trading in the US. I'd simply move overseas and then US will miss out on all that corporate tax and other income tax of the rich.. also, this will never happen, you think her donations will allow that? She is stupid
@kyleb.83784 ай бұрын
They tried the tax credit help almost 4 years ago then went to the smallest credits ever - they over extended. If we get it again it will just cost us more in the coming years. Rolling back tax breaks on billionaires and corporations do nothing for us. It just increases the cost of the products they provide and we pay more which costs us more in taxes on that product. Giving new home buyers 25k for home purchases would automatically inflate home values to 25k more because they would be willing to pay that extra money for the same home. The average home in America is 400k and at the rate of inflation just in the last four years I'll have over 1 million in home value that I will pay taxes and somehow unrealized gains on. I'm going to be the brokest millionaire. I'm used to getting taxed 3-4 times but 5 is where I draw the line 😂 None of her plan benefits regular people in any way, shape, or form.

It's just such a cultural thing here that no matter what, some people will tip, and I dont think there's a realistic way you could enforce people not to tip. If people tip cash, I doubt servers would declare it, so it would be irrelevant. It would be too much micromanaging to track.
