Years ago,we live in a very remote area on 360 acres,A10’s would do low overhead passes over our ranch,we stretched a huge American flag ,”not touching the ground”,where they could see it,they really put a show on for us,gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat, but mainly it made me proud of our country and our military men and women🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸👍🇺🇸

A lot of people being delulu in the comments here. The A10 isn’t being retired because some bureaucrat doesn’t like it, it’s being shelved because the concept is flawed. The Gatling gun doesn’t do well against armored targets and there are safer ways to deal with softer ones. The Gatling gun can’t be fired for too long or the whole plane shakes and when only a couple bullets hit the tank they’re firing at the chance of it hitting anything important isn’t actually great. Even in test runs against stationary armored targets with as much time as it wanted to make runs it couldn’t reliably destroy even a couple of them. God forbid your target is in a forest or deploys smoke The fact that it has to get low to attack anything is a detriment; man portable rockets can already destroy low flying targets and bigger unsophisticated AA like the Tunguska will just shred it. The idea that it can shrug off rockets is a myth by the way; it was perpetuated by the man who stole credit for the creation of the plane actually. (He had a reputation of doing so) The fact that it can loiter and carry bombs underwing isn’t new, in fact other planes can do it better than a non-jet plane invented 60 years ago for cheaper. Also; it is wildly inaccurate. It’s not got modern sensor systems like other planes and during desert storms pilots were taking binoculars into their cockpit. The A10 has the most friendly fire incidents of any plane in desert storm, to the point where our allies requested they not be flown near their airspace. Bullets fired at the ground also have a tendency to, you know bounce; so when the gattling gun was fired you can measure in school buses how far away any stray round will find its way into civilian structures, friendlies, or civilians. A few centimeters should not be the difference between a medal, a court martial, and a war crime on a modern plane The reason we keep it today is because we have them so might as well use them. But as the years go on it’s getting more expensive and risky to our pilots lives to keep flying legacy aircraft invented just a couple years after the Vietnam war

Maybe transfer the A10 from the Air Force over to the Army and Marines-any or every branch that has the need for close air support for ground troops, special missions etc? It’s definitely a great air to ground support platform-the troops definitely need all the air to ground support they can get!
