It's even weirder than that. A 'carbuncle' is a skin infection involving two or more 'furuncles', which is what they used to call infected ingrown hairs. In other FF's, I think it has a healing effect, which is a pretty backwards name for a healing summon lol. But in FF5, I think it casts reflect?

When I went to the Soul Cannon. I grinded so hard, I absolutely obliterated it before it even got a chance to attack.

It does have a crazy amount of HP. I didn't grind, but I used 'Level 5 Death' to kill off the two launchers instantly lol

If you play this game again. Here's a cool grinding spot when you get the airship. So you go to Crescent Island, go to that tiny islsnd full of black flame enemies on the north. Just right above it. And then you get a ninja, and when you encounter 5 black flames, use a lightning scroll. It kills them all instantly, and you get 870 gil, 362 EXP, and 3 ABP

I don't blame you, brother. I had to grind here myself. I got Lucas to Level 45, so he'd learn 'PSI Shield Ω'. Also, if you lower their defense low enough, they'll use 'Defense Up Ω' and waste a turn raising their defense. I think the Barrier Trio is actually the hardest boss in the entire game 😅.

You just have to hang in there long enough and the fight eventually ends. It's a little disappointing actually. Particularly since they pulled something similar in EarthBound/Mother 2.

Did you pay for the android version? Well here's a tip next time you pay for another final fantasy game. Get My Boy, it's much cheaper. And download a GBA rom of that game. (note, this only works for ff1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 only.)

Lucas has to survive the masked man’s onslaught by himself. Revive any of your teammates and the masked man will KO them using PK Love Omega. Just raise Lucas’ defense, lower the masked man’s attack, then guard until you need to restore HP, then resume guarding after healing.

Oh yeah, I remember you've done both EarthBound and EarthBound Zero. So this would finish off the series for you. It's an weird and interesting game with a very unique rhythm-based combat system. If you playthrough this, my videos can show you how to score some secret weapons.

Yikes! And I have it sped up basically the whole time I'm not picking my moves. I wonder if there was some sort of update that made this fight more challenging? I'm playing this on Steam basically a month after it came out in 2021.

This was one of my favorite parts of the game when I was playing it growing up. Compared to the original, I'm definitely not a fan of the 'remaster' changes (i.e. some of this pixel art looks like a step backwards and the music doesn't cut as hard), but it's cool to see this dungeon again.

If it's the music from 9:43 right when you walk into the Cave of Shadows, then it's track 12 from the OST entitled 'Hyne's Castle'. I guess it's the same music from Hein Castle? Anyway, I haven't been able to find a video here on KZbin with the song. @@SamuraiTacos1 yeah, I just re-watched the battle. He's a beast. I thought I was doing a low level run, but your party's levels are definitely lower. Kudos to you. The only thing helpful I remembered is that if you cast dispel on him after he casts reflect on himself, it kinda trips him up.
