Notions in NZ are very limited - true I’ve been buying through ail express for over a decade now You don’t always have to get loads of what ever it is you need. You can buy in one and twos Ribbon Rose in Auckland seem to be getting a better supply of notions And the team at Sew it Christchurch are brilliant. They will try to resource things if you ask. They’ve also started to stock Guttermann maraflex although the colours are still limited You can ask for a certain colour and they will resource it but it that takes time So you need to plan ahead, which I’m hopeless at Anyway, I found these three options the best

Beautiful makes - you have been busy. I am a bit of a slow sewer and because now it is summer in Australia my sewing room gets quite hot so my pattern pieces are all over the house.

Hi Fiona. Very sorry to hear you have a family tragedy. I also like the first Seamwork cami. Wishing you a great Christmas and New year and I hope you get lots of sewing done over the holidays. Happy sewing

Hi Fiona. Very sorry to hear you have had a family tragedy. Wishing you well for your recovery from that. But on a lighter note you have had quite the cami adventure 😂. It was really good to see those 3 patterns made up. I think I like the first Seamwork one best. I like the wide neckline on it, it sat really nicely at the neck. The Orchard was good in theory but like you I wouldn't be happy with where the straps are positioned. All the best xxx.

Hi I made the size that fitted my measurements for my bust. I checked the hip and decided to increase by about 1.5” and because it was a woven pattern. (No stretch) Another tip is to get one of your existing woven tops that fit and compare against the pattern. I usually use the layer option when printing and choose 2 sizes that are close to my measurements and grade accordingly. I hope this helps! ❤
@barbaracochran8682 ай бұрын
Did you make your "regular" size? My measurements are right between 2 sizes & trying to decide to go up or down.

Such a lovely selection of makes. It is so satisfying creating your own wardrobe with shapes and colours that you choose yourself. I have a few of those patterns, but some are yet to be printed off and sewn up. I do find that Pattern Emporium, Love Notions and Itch to Stitch are great value and seem to suit me when I make them.

Hi Fiona, you have been busy! You've got yourself just about a whole season's worth of new makes there. I really need to make the Smitten, I've had it in my mind to since it came out. I really loved the fabric of your second skirt with the birds on it, so cute. And the white Seamwork top, the one with the cotton lace on it, was super nice, I loved it ❤.
@NZStitchBird-zy6eg2 ай бұрын
Thank you! I hope you've settled into Christchurch and getting back into your sewing. The Smitten is a easy pattern, but I think I'd make it a little bit longer if I make it again. 🙂

The Dara looks lovely on you, the best of a lovely bunch! I also like the topper by itch to stitch, I’ve had the pattern ages but not made it up yet. ..I will now I’ve seen it on you. I’ve been thinking of joining seam work, the annual choice. Do you think it’s worth it?

I have enjoyed Seamwork. There are so many patterns, resources and courses you can do. They do offer discounts from time to time. Check out their channel. On one of their latest vlogs they were promoting 'design your wardrobe for winter' and had a discount to join up.

I love videos like this because they're such a nice reminder that, even if a project doesn't come together perfectly, they oftentimes still turn out totally wearable and looking great. The blouse looks so lovely and comfy, and I don't think anyone would see it and assume it *wasn't* professionally made!

Thank you! We're always perfectionists on our projects, but ready to wear clothing are not always quality. We also learn from our mistakes too!

I think your restyled Benning dress looks great on you now. I purchased the Frankie polo shirt when it was released but haven't made it yet. It looks like a useful garment to have in the wardrobe. I'm trying to sew more everyday items rather than dresses, which I always enjoy making but only wear occasionally.
@NZStitchBird-zy6eg2 ай бұрын
Thanks Sharon… I agree I think plain tops are better and I need to think before I buy patterned fabric! Unless it’s for a bottom or dress. I’ve ordered some plain fabric online from Drapers. They’re opening a shop in Wellington and 30% off online or in store this weekend. The Frankie top is $5 till today I think! Enjoy your sewing!

What a great transformation of your dress it looks really nice now. I love your new phone it's very cute. Your top turned out great and will be really useful in your wardrobe. I have a lot of patterned tops and find they can be difficult to wear them with some clothes as the patterns can clash. I will have to make some plain tops so I can wear them with patterned bottoms. I see some more sewing ahead of me. Have a lovely long weekend. Happy sewing.

Hi Samara the ‘imperial’ just means it’s the inch measurements. Check your bust measurement against the sizing. I made a 16 from the sizing chart. It is confusing but most patterns have body measurements, so use them rather than the size. 😊
@samaradryburgh3 ай бұрын
Thanks for doing a video on this! Im just starting to sew, and its super helpful to see these kinds of videos. Can I ask with this pattern it says its in Imperial so converting to Metric for Aussie sizes is usually 2 different? ie if I wanted to sew an AU18, Id select the size 14 in this pattern pack?

Hi Fiona. Thanks for the lovely sew along. It looks easy when you do it. The silk blouse looks lovely. I hope you have more time in the sewing room during the school holidays. I will have less as I have grandkids but I treasure that that they still want to stay with us. I can sew lots when they are home again. Happy sewing😊
