My dad had one of these. It was used, 13 y/o but new to us. a part in the transmission needed to be replaced, so getting into first gear was a hassle. His model was dark green and had a radio. Not many did. I wonder how much the radio was?

I am 72 years old. When I was growing up my parents had a 1956 Chevrolet BelAir that had the six cylinder engine and the 3 speed column shift. The 1956 Chevrolet had the same gear whine sound in first and second gear. It sure seems like the three speed manual transmission changed very little from 1939 to 1956.
@chevychristian4734 Жыл бұрын
I agree, l think both engine and transmission are very much the same.By the way, Belair was a super nice and good looking car. l am 73 yers old😊😊

its amazing what america once build as an affordable vehicle. 30 years later - let alone today that wasnt happening anymore! the gearbox whine (?) sounds like an ww2 bomb alarm haha!

Back about 1952 my father had a black coupe. He still talks about it to this day. He and my mother loved that car. 1939 was a unique year for Chevy with the "baby Cadillac" front end and the deletion of the convertible for that one year.

I previously owned one and it ran well. But was difficult in the rain because the vacuum wiper motors slowed to a stop while accelerating.

@@chevychristian4734 my comment wasn't about how the Chevy ran,it was about the vacuum wiper motor slowing while the car is accelerating. It may be that your wiper motor has been replaced with an electric motor.

The steering-wheel shifter arm was something that never caught on outside of North America and only the quintessentially American brands such as Chevy and Chrysler ever had it. Even on Ford cars it was very rare in Europe.
