Hello. Great video!!! For some time now I have been interested in switching to using Legere synthetic reeds, but I am still undecided on the size. You often read that it is necessary to use Legere reeds 0.25 or 0.5 lower than the corresponding cane ones. Do you think this is correct? I usually use Rigotti 2.5 or Gonzalez 2.5 or LaVoz M. So I should decide whether to use Legere 2.25 or 2.0 ......

@@davidemarzola608 thank you for your feedback and comments! Well it gets more complicated than that too because the different legere reeds have different strengths... For example in my experience a 2 American cut is stronger than a 2 Signature which is stronger than a 2 French cut. So I would recommend making a best guess based on the strength chart on legere's website and then taking advantage of their reed strength exchange within 30 days of purchase if you feel you've chosen the wrong strength.

Hey Pedro. I honestly haven't played the American cut in quite some time but my best guess is that low notes would be easier to produce on the signature. Not sure if that is what you meant by "best." Hope that helps some!

@@dannyboylan2342 Olá, entendo, no caso no meu sax tenho algumas notas agudas e outras abafadas, além de ter algumas notas muito desafinadas, isso daria para corrigir? Usando o google tradutor Hello, I understand, in my sax I have some high notes and some muffled notes, in addition to having some very out of tune notes, would that be able to correct it?
@dannyboylan2342 Жыл бұрын
Well you only want to use this technique with notes are are very sharp... This technique can only LOWER the pitch. And I wouldn't use it with notes that are just sightly sharp that you can bring down with your embouchure. Also, you don't want to use this method if, for example, your middle F is very sharp, but your low F is flat, because it might fix the middle F, but it will make your low F even flatter!

I usually have a 1.75 american cut for soprano, i changed my mouthpiece and the 1.75 is too hsrd and the 1.50 is too soft, anything to do?
@dannyboylan2342 Жыл бұрын
Hey Joe. I've got a video on softening legere reeds if you'd want to try it on the 1.75, but it might end up as soft or softer than the 1.5...
@dannyboylan2342 Жыл бұрын
Or... And this may be better... Have you tried using the 1.5 but putting it on your mouthpiece so that the reed extends just slightly past the tip (this will make it "harder"). Likewise, placing the 1.75 on your mouthpiece such that the reed tip doesn't quite reach the end of the mouthpiece will effectively make the reed "softer." I'd try those 2 first.

Hi Ro Ma. Reed strength is a completely personal choice and I think I'd be doing you a disservice by recommending one. I would suggest however that you find the Legere reed strength chart online and use it to determine a good strength, based on what type and strength cane reed you play. Hope that helps some!

Hey J Williams. I've not tried it with an American cut so I can't say for sure, but my guess is it should work the same. Hopefully someone else that can verify will respond.

I like and play both reeds. I think both have strengths and weaknesses. The Signature is warmer, but I seem to get more variation in clarity from note to note. For me, the American Cut has excellent clarity, but leans in the brighter direction. Which I pick depends on the sound I'm going for in the moment. If the Signature and American Cut had a baby, I'd be set for life.

Thanks for info! Which of the 2 reeds would you recommend to use in a Vandoren V16 B7 mouthpiece???
@dannyboylan23422 жыл бұрын
Hey Nicolas thanks for the comment! This stuff is all very subjective and personal preference, so I couldn't really recommend one over the other for you as what you like and what I like might be different! That being said, I think the signature reed is more versatile and a good bet if you haven't played a legere before. The American is more of a niche reed in my opinion. If you can afford it maybe get both and see which you like better!
