Having done a similar test (the PREP) with ex-military personnel, it is surprisingly difficult even for conditioned individuals such as them.

This test in no way provides officers testers with any true indication with an applicants physical ability. I would rather see a martial ability test to properly control a person or group in hand to hand an unarmed training. I think it's about time the RCMP got back to the basics and truly underline there ability to deal with conflict as opposed to putting together a useless adrenaline test. What a wast of time. More and more officers today rely more heavily on fire power because constant hand to hand training is neglected because of federal and municipal budget restraints. It's what again boils down to poor management. What a shame...
@Prettyboy411
@Prettyboy411 10 жыл бұрын
Your comment to me personally shows how little you know about policing in general. During Depot you are trained In self defense (which includes hand to hand training, use of force tools and conflict resolution ). The PARE test originated from testing prisoners general strength and aerobic abilities and it is a good preliminary requirement in order to pass the "basic training" during Depot; It simulates a real world scenario where you are running, jumping, pushing, pulling while being physically tired. As far as "officers today rely more heavily on fire power" I disagree... Officers are trained in lethal force levels which includes many tools to use before resorting to their pistol; most officers go through their entire career not using it once and many officers have excellent communication skills which is their biggest "weapon". - I am not a Police Officer.
@3AmberScorpions
@3AmberScorpions 10 жыл бұрын
Actually I know quite a bit about policing in particular. I also make this statement form the stand point of individuals and as a group of officers who share my opinion. Yes, physical training is good as well as good health but the focus should not be on that. Not enough consistent training at Depot in terms of armed and unarmed is my point. When you get there and have pulled a 16 and keep on going you will tell me how that physical training was useful to you. It's about what you know. Simple as that. When you have no energy, that is what kicks in.
@EbbWeaver
@EbbWeaver 9 жыл бұрын
So you are not for PARE reform, yet you advocate communication as a police officers greatest weapon. The PARE representing real world situation is a bit far fetched considering most encounters are handled by communication and even far less are handled by any sort of pursuit. It's a very old and outdated model.
@3AmberScorpions
@3AmberScorpions 9 жыл бұрын

They should force officers to pass the PARE every 6 months or be put on suspension until they do pass. They should also provide free memberships to Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling academies to promote more of a martial arts mindset when conducting themselves on the job. IT would eliminate fear, officers would have more self control and confidence, and they would be physically capable of apprehending pretty much any body and controlling almost all situations without the use of deadly force. The PARE is a good test, maybe not the best (I prefer ATS PREP where you need to wear a vest and belt) but it's still something that weeds out a lot of people who probably shouldn't be cops lol.

Translation: You weren't good enough. That vast majority of RCMP is made up of white males. It's funny cause my teacher (who is a white, male former police officer) was making fun of people who try to make your argument in class. My uncle is RCMP since 1993 and guess what? Yeah, white male. Give up the bitterness, you simply weren't good enough.

Don't mind my asking -- I'm going to be applying for the RCMP in the coming year, and I'm wondering if you have any tips for someone who will be going through the same motions? What was it that they dinged you for on the first interview? Was it a deferral or a permanent denial? Hope you don't mind my asking -- just very interested in finding out.
