What would be interesting is to compare a model O and a model L. Those pianos as essentially the same size, with different scale designs.

The differences are so marginal, both grands sound fantastic! I wish I had only one of the two at home ...

It depends on the room size, if yo put model B in a small room, pianist could have hearing loss overtime... Model B is good for a small-med recital hall & model O is for an average living room.

Yes, the first chord of the Henry Z was much warmer. The tri-cent has its place too.

Piano Stainway and sons is very expensive ; it’s luxury piano. I just play piano Petrof ; sometimes I play Yamaha U1 or Kawai K300 upright. It’s OK.

I hAve heard both in person multiple Times. Model O is Warm and Soft; Model B is Mellow. There is a Difference between Mellow and Warm. I prefer Model A

I prefer the model B over the model O in this comparison. The B is voiced more uniformly, and its tones are purer. Also, the B has a longer tone sustainability in mid high register which makes those beautiful melodies in Schumann and Chopin pieces more touching!

Model B sounds closer to an upright compared to the Model O, which almost sounds like a Model D.

I like 150th anniversary version sound because it sounds more like the modern one In Steinway showroom. It has more tone color and broader reverb.

Pianoteq is what I use for the Steinway sound. A real one would require constant tunings and maintenance. That gets expensive all by itself.

Henry Z sounds much warmer and fuller. I love the sound of it.

Is it possible improve the performance to level 4 or 5 on Steinway Spirio-R model B?
@davidkettlewell8292 жыл бұрын
there is no question that the 1947 concert piano (to right) is superior in tone, just needs some needling of hammerheads. It is for this reason I play a fully restored and customized 1883 Steinway Model A 6 foot grand piano. (Yes, I did say 1883) I actually fitted Steinway B hammerheads and shanks to the 1883 Model A, but ground away a bit of the heavier felt to equalize touch to original. It provides a fully concert sound out of a smaller piano.

Hi. Thanks for the video. I'm not an expert. But judging by my own experience, I find model B much richer in sound characteristics, although model O sounds definitely louder in the video. But model B has a sweet, pure, and long-sustaining characteristic in the upper register, which is exactly what I would seek in a Steinway piano. The sound quality seems much more uniformly distributed to me in model B rather than the other one. In contrast, model O seems to be boosting frequencies between 250Hz and 500Hz, which makes its sound quality uneven.
@Oparacletos Жыл бұрын
The fact that the O was rarely played, I believe is key to that distinction- and would agree with you in that basis. I believe that “in person” we would be more acutely aware of their different voices... the B is of course much more mature in comparison to the “shrill” (too harsh a word, I know) voice of the O.

That B, not even close. It was divine
@qiangdaxs2 жыл бұрын
I think the difference is mainly from the year they are made. The sound of model O is more like Hamburg made Steinway since the company begin to unify their appearance and regulation. The model b sound very typical NY Steinway, warm soft and rich sound.

If the 1947 gets a nice fine voicing treatment to smoothen a bit, it's a superior instrument to my ears.

Man, you're a character Maestro Bruno. Too bad these style of sales will be extinct in a few decades. It's so entertaining. "We don't find out piano, our piano find us".

That color jacket amongst all those beautiful pianos!!! So a Steinway grand still needs 60 hours of work on it after you buy it to get it to a level "5"? Why??
@laronwoods16333 жыл бұрын
They are both so very close. The extra foot of length on the B is hardly noticeable to me. The O still sounds like a bigger piano. Superb quality on both. As I said, the difference is hardly noticeable. The tone seems pure on both.
@michaelhiggins73653 жыл бұрын
The "L" is very close to the "O" and are like the "Fraternal Twins" of Steinway pianos, not identical, but surely twin-like in their performance. What a beautiful sweet and honest sound this piano has. I would be beaming with pride to be its' caretaker.
@michaelhiggins73653 жыл бұрын
I'm always so impressed with the sound of the Model "O". It seems to have a warm Bass and Tenor, not overly boomy, with a fairly bright yet honest Treble. This piano has such an even and soothing tone and the case is just gorgeous.
@davidcunningham73303 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid you can't really tell the difference in resonance and the deep sound of the 'B' over the 'O' without hearing them both in person. Computer speakers aren't meant for that.
@BFHPET Жыл бұрын
exactly there is a big difference in real life.
