I just had this issue on my x5 e70. I bought a 2013 shifter and fixed it. Gasser shifter worked on my diesel. Shifter felt like it had no path inside. Wobbling around. Also you need to press button on side to shift haha. No coding needed.

You have to replace the clock spring. Don't forget to take the back part of your clock spring and put it on the new one.

Your awesome.. watched many other videos from other people which was kind of misleading because they said the driver side but it was definitely the passenger side sensor that was bad. Just buy the sensor not the whole high pressure fuel pump. It takes like 3 minutes to replace just the sensor and costs $40. Thanks for your video it directed me to the passenger side of the car where I should have been replacing it now my car works great. 2007 Audi Q7 4.2
