Sadly, this cannot be the perfect beginner bike for EVERYBODY as there are many countries that will not allow beginners to ride more than 125cc.

I bought an '18 Star 250 two years ago. Customizing it too. But it doesn't have an " automatic" kickstand. somebody likely replaced the stock kickstand spring with a stronger one they found to be similar. So as soon as you level the bike, the stiffer spring pops it back up. The bikes also love to lean into turns when you're having a TT Moment. And the V-Twin has more low-end torque that Parallel Twins. Great for a cruiser bike. Besides the fact that it's the same size & over-all style as the Sportster of the mid-80's. Compare the details sometime. Fun little bike with classic style!

definitely possible, i never looked into it as the bike wasnt meant for me, but yeah it kinda sucked, itd be better to just have a kickstand switch (maybe it did? i forget). yes the bike was super easy to manuever and lean, id scrape the pegs just messing around, the bike gives you alot of confidence as its just so light and flickable. never thought id call a cruiser flickable lol. have fun with the build!

The first thing I did to my 2009 V-Star 250 was change the rear drive to 17/40 sprockets and an O ring chain. Excellent !!

change the sprokets to 17/38 and the bike is a whole different tory and can cruise at 65 or 70mph all day.

i actually sold the bike to a friend, i remember when i rode it for an hour long trip and had no issues crusing at 70, was actually impressed with how smooth it was at those speeds, great bike.

Got my license in June 2024 and bought a real learner bike a Honda Grom and have put 3000 miles on it in 90 days. I now moved up to the big guys and bought a 2016 Yamaha V star twin 250. I will be in possession of it in two days, Sept 7 2024

@@timebombprod6829 Getting late in the year up here in Canada, I did not yet license it. Bought it as I saw it in the Auto Trader, a 2016 Yamaha V star twin XVS, with a windshield and only 2,300 Kilometers. I was not going to buy one til May of next year but when I saw this beauty, I decided to buy it now, and store it for the winter. I start it up now and then: put in fresh gas, and keep the battery on trickle charge. So far I like it as far as sitting on it and one sits lower on it than the Honda Grom. For me a small old guy of 78, 5 feet 6, 120 lbs I think it will be just perfect and do not need a 700 pound bike. One thing I found confusing is the choke control. If the lever is moved to the right it runs perfect. Now at that position there is an icon of a "Closed choke". No engine when warm runs well on a closed choke so I am wondering if that icon means something else..

A bit small for us gargantuans. Still rideable to start off for a few months then to sell to the next learner.

I do have to admit my butt did get kinda numb after an hour Long ride, and it probably had to do with me being taller and heavier, still have to say it's an amazing beginner bike

The handle bars would be a problem for me. I had a set like those on a 82 VF 750 Magna and I suffered from pins and needles in my hands and after about 20 minutes my hand were numb. I changed them to a set of touring bars and my hands are fine. Honda Magna made a 250 which the states never got. It was also a V twin.

I had no clue about the magna 250 These bars didn't seem so bad for me, I did take it for an hour Long ride and I don't remember having issues but then again that's just me.

After having a few bigger more complex bikes. The little virago is a breath of fresh air it's just such a free feeling riding a 300lb bike with enough torque for most occasions.

The GZ 250 is a 4-valve single. The Rebel 250 is a twin, but vibrates like a lawnmower. All have a single carb, which is a good introduction to basic maintenance for a beginning rider. On the Virago, the carb is at an angle, so you can do quite a bit of work without actually removing it.

Also lends itself to customization. Great lines, especially as a solo if the seat is trimmed a little.

Bro - I had this bike! And it is indeed the perfect beginner bike. These days, I'd want something with fuel injection, but I kept that bike running in perfect condition. It wasn't really fast or heavy enough for the highway, but I loved cruising around town on my Virago 250! It sounded great and you cannot beat a V in this displacement.
@timebombprod6829
@timebombprod6829 9 ай бұрын
I didn't cover it but I agree, I'd never take it on the highway but it's absolutely perfect for anything else. If I were not mechanically inclined I'd rather have it fuel injected aswell so I don't have to worry about a carb rebuild, but hey I am!

I think you did a very good spot on topic , but overlooked one important thing . A lot of people worry about the image factor . They buy larger/ faster bikes that can be way over their heads , and in some cases , ends badly . That need for image was not any where near as strong ,40-50 years ago ,as it is today . Myself , still a rider at 75 , I have seen that mentality grow . Most of the blame , I believe is through slick marketing . Hey ! Lets face it , 'COOL' SELLS !! , and a lot of times it kills , and not just with motorcycles . I say all this out of concern and not ridicule . I have been a sport bike rider all my life , and still am , and have learned a thing or two .

I completely agree, anytime I've seen somebody on a smaller bike and ask what it is they don't seem so proud about saying it's a 250 or 300, I get why but at the same time these little bikes are a whole lot of fun and are so easy to ride, and it's all about being safe and learning the fundamentals of riding when you first start. It's like having the coolest car in the parking lot. But I do think it being a v-twin makes people not so worried about getting a smaller bike because that in itself is pretty unique and does add a cool factor to it in my opinion.

@@azgrandpadon6186 Just gotta watch the marketplace and grab one when it's for sale! I didn't talk about price on here but I got this one for $650, and at the end it was under $1050 with all the parts replaced and labour I did. Now all it needs is gas when it's running low and an oil change when it gets to that point. I've seen them as low as $300 with a title but any deal like that is sold as soon as it's posted
