@paulthompson8467 the under swept exhaust would be something quite rare on a later Agricultural major , they did fit them onto industrial ones , guess it was for low sheds

@arwelagrimachineryАй бұрын
Thank you 👍, in a way the old single/double chop were ahead in they saved a fair bit of labour, not needing a mower or something to rake , bit like running a Fusion now type thing
@arwelagrimachineryАй бұрын
A double chop would be nice , save needing a 5'6" drum mower. Only bit of a snag it was quite fashionable to use the double chops for topping with the back door off , all the grass juice/cow muck rotted them out.

I can Morgan are you I have done several six sign the conversions with majors and your four-cylinder air cleaner is not big enough for a six cylinder it will drink the oil out of it. You need a bigger air cleaner not trying to be big headed just that’s what happens when you put it together it will drink oil out of it. I made a six by welding free, cast iron sump together to make a very nice cast sump for a majorMorgan, mid Wales

Both are good general tractors for daily use. I think David Brown had 2 advantages , stronger front axle and easy starting in cold weather. But Layland has a better setup for the 3 point hitch control. Being American I don't understand why they don't allow use of remote and 3 point at the same time. It's unnecessary to have to select what you need to use before using it. All hydraulic systems should function symotaniosly no matter what. Even a tractor from Russia and China have that functionality. Always make me wonder why they made it so overly complicated to use. But I love my David Brown 990 and won't trade it for anything because it's dependable and strong for it's age. Thanks for sharing your Tractors with us.
@arwelagrimachinery3 ай бұрын
Tbh, a British Ford or Massey Ferguson the same age have separate spool valves, DB and Leyland were a bit slow to update things e.g. brakes, pto clutch, hydraulics. The later Case (DB) and yellow Marshall/Leyland did have spools though
@charleswelch2493 ай бұрын
@@arwelagrimachinery I like the Ford Ferguson tractors. But the Ferguson system lifts always left me chaining up the lift because they got weak. Running a brush cutter and plow always left me stranded until it cools down. I'd buy a IH or Deer because the hydraulic system was strong and reliable for constant usage. Everything has a strong point. Ford's and Ferguson tractors don't get hung up in the swamp but they don't have enough strength for the rest of the job. But comfort is not good with IH or Deer but very durable. I have found my Case/ David Brown is a compromise for power and fuel efficiency. Still could be more versatile in the hydraulic system but it's reliable and strong. But any tractor today is just a nightmare with computer control and expensive to repair. Love the simple old tractor of the past when they were made by people. Thanks for letting me rant 😂.

@charleswelch249 old TO20 ? If the same as the TE20 British version, the PTO shaft ran the hydraulic pump , switch that off the impliment soon comes down 🤣 . Kverneland in Norway (?) Made a latch to hold 3pl up while transporting 1 of their ploughs . Later Massey 35 had the hydraulic pump driven off the pto, but it was in front of the sector for having it Turning at the back so they solved that problem

Good job... I always remember my dad once as a young man had in his mind too either buy a welder or a machine for sharpening sheep shearing blades as he sheared a lot but in the end bought the welder... over the yrs he made and repaired all sorts of stuff and as a kid I picked it up and am quite a competent welder now too and I often think what a great asset too have it is.... like your repair there if you had to go buy that part new it would probably be the end of the machine ....yet with a bit of time and your skill you can return it too work... great feeling ... nice job well done..👍

wait… with waste valve design using suction & dual small “check ports” converging into a larger pipe, could this be constructed with no check valves or accumulator?
@arwelagrimachinery4 ай бұрын
Its a cut away diagram, the waste check valve is like a O ring , goes right around the housing so its a single circular port, you'd need it to get the snap for the hydraulic shock
@transcendentsage47044 ай бұрын
Nvm I see the check valves…
@arwelagrimachinery4 ай бұрын
It's a pipe within another pipe really with valve seating right around where the inner one ends , waste comes out the top but goes right around that inner pipe like a liner in a wet sleeve engine

I live in Belgium. My first baler was a Allis Chalmers 201. It was really a good working machine. These days, i am working on a Jones mk16. One needle was broken, the timing was wrong. This baler has no chane on it. I suppose i can use it next summer.
@arwelagrimachinery4 ай бұрын
The Mk16 is actually a Bamford BX9 baler painted red , they were after Allis Chalmers UK sold up and Bamford took over machinery. I think you can still get Bamford needles new. Yes they were shaft/gear driven, quite good really no chain to rust/snap, are the gears ok?

You just said it hard to get in the david browns just buy a zetor they are better standard with air compressor air brakes for trailers and plenty room in cab to get in and out hydrulic pto in the zetor cystall range and a better multi power then the massey yokes and zetor cabs are sealed up with foam under the floor for low noise and some zetor models had frount suspention so melt down the david brown and leyland into channel iron
