Draw something you plan to sculpt. Like a thumbnail ideas video. Maybe a gouache painting or an alcohol markers drawing too. I enjoy timed figure drawings too so this was cool.
@AscentArt
@AscentArt Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a good idea, I already draw everything out before I sculpt it in those videos, but maybe fleshing out an original design and then sculpting it could be fun! I've never tried gouache, I do have a set of some budget alcohol markers I use for fills. I'll give them a try and see if I can make anything cool with them.

I've noticed lately there have been a lot of videos and comments of people saying to practice less, to go easy on yourself, that studies are boring and don't really serve much of a purpose so it's nice to see a video of someone doing studies
@AscentArt
@AscentArt Жыл бұрын
Ya know, I see this mentality in a lot of modern art communities as well. I think that one, we're all different, what works for one will not work for all. With that said, how can anyone realistically expect to improve without practice? Hey to each their own I guess, I don't find studying that boring. I love art and want to improve.
@snowpanther7076
@snowpanther7076 Жыл бұрын
@@AscentArt I love doing studies. I find them relaxing even though I prefer to do more cartoony illustrations for myself. What I really don't understand is why people are trying to find ways to draw less. I have to stop myself to do other stuff or I'd get carpal tunnel or something

@@AscentArt I think the reason is to prevent people from burning out, or to temper their expectations so they can build consistency in practice, so when you add more volume to your work then youve already built a habit so you won't stop.

I find oil paints to be intimidating. The amount of set up required is also a bit awkward. But then I don't paint a lot. I have alcohol markers and colored pencils. I have been trying gouache tho.
@AscentArt
@AscentArt Жыл бұрын
I was intimidated too, but once you get over that initial hurdle they're not so bad. I normally don't use that much traditional media at all lately, but all that's changing this year. Alcohol markers are fun, I haven't used colored pencils enough and never tried gouache.

Great job! keep going! I really like "live" line in your sketches! to make it even more fun, you can draw sketches with one line/contour or different materials it helps not to get bored in the process and sketchbook looks more interesting! funny thing, when i myself was training for college i also doing sketches from the quickposes and now recognized some of the pictures you drew!

How difficult is it to learn? Wil it take a month to learn basic steps?
@AscentArt

Zbrush? I learned the bare minimum and finished this sculpture in about 24hrs. I'd say it depends on your goals, organic shapes are pretty straight forward and the tools you'd need aren't too complex. The UI is just confusing at first.

@AscentArt
@AscentArt 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Much appreciated! I use monster clay which is oil based and smooths well with external or even body heat. I'll also brush mineral spirits over the surface after smoothing with guitar string. Before painting I hit them with a few coats of matte varnish, allowing the paint to adhere evenly as well.
