my reply: thanks for your kind response, Sir -- i sincerely appreciate you taking the time! now let's have a look. paragraph 1 -- did John not believe in the Scripture's having primacy? paragraph 2 -- a few problems with this verse, Sir: a -- Christians do worship 24/7 -- but One day was sanctified, blessed, made Holy to be kept Holy -- the 7th day, not the 1st. and Ex 20:8-11, shows the other days are simply 'work days' -- this can never change or our Creator and our Saviour lied. b -- Acts 20:7 -- they had Sabbath worship (Acts 17:2), then, when the evening was upon them, it got dark and the 1st day came, Sabbath evening -- no change of Command here. i admit, i too was confused with this one. c - 1 Cor 16:2 -- 'lay in store' does not = 'change the Command'. in fact, this was the same trip taken by Paul to Corinth, spoken of in Acts 18:1. kindly turn to Acts 18:4 to see how the Holy day was spend at church, by all - jew and gentile, as it should be on His day, the Lord's day! 2 Cor 9:12 -- no connection whatsoever. paragraph 3 -- Col 2:16 -- if you're thinking Paul was speaking of the Commandment, then Paul would be in contradiction with our Creator (Ex 20), our Saviour (Matt 5:18-19, Luke 16:17) and himself (1 Cor 7:19, Rom 6:1, 2, 15, etc) -- Paul didn't promote nor condone sin, Sir -- clearly this is walking in 2 Peter 3:15-16. if you'd like, i can show many verses proving the Sabbath for all times, even into Heaven to come! and if you'd like, i can explain what Paul was teaching in that verse. just let me know, friend! but don't ignore Truth!

"Apostolic Christianity, that is, the Christianity Jesus handed to us through His Apostles." (that is referring to the scriptures). We are assisted in understanding the scriptures secondarily with the help of the ante-Nicene fathers (those within the first 300 years of the church, some of whom were personally associated with Jesus' Apostles. I take col 2:16 at face value - sabbaton: Definition: the Sabbath, the seventh day (of the week). The meaning isn't obscure. The book of Hebrews teaches us that the unbelieving Jews never entered any real rest anyway. Through the work of Christ, which is superior to Moses and permanent, believers are in a permanent "rest", jus as God is in a permanent sabbath following his work of creation. (Heb. 3-4) As we see in Acts 2, the early Christians were gathering for worship daily, the scripture elsewhere only mentions the specific day they gather as "the first day of the week", as pointed out above. The Apostles decided that Gentile believers, in regards to the law of Moses, were only required to follow these requirements: Acts 15:28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: 29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.” (ESV) All other laws fall under the first two commandments of Jesus.

@@fmchobbs paragraphs 1 & 2 -- prove clearly that this isn't at all accurate nor to be taken seriously since it's in contradiction to God's Word. see Luke 16:17 paragraph 4 -- actually, they gathered 'daily' in Acts 2:46, please read the verse. paragraph 5 -- again, this has ZERO to do with the law of Moses, but rather is a Commandment from our Creator -- entirely different. yes, God's Ten is about loving God and loving neighbors -- 1 John 5:2-3, John 14:15 but sadly, catholicism is AGAINST God's Command in Exodus 20.

i have a question! does a methodist keep Exodus 20:8-11 or bow to the papacy and pretend sunday is the Lord's day?

The Global Methodist Church, in keeping with the original reformers, understands the church to be always reforming. It is a continuing work of "re" formation of apostolic Christianity, that is, the Christianity Jesus handed to us through His Apostles. Our founder, John Wesley, felt that was most clearly reflected in the Christianity documented in the first 300 years of church history. As far as the Pope retains these teachings, we bow to those teachings as well. As far as worshiping on Sunday, I simply refer you to what the scripture teaches: Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2, and 2 Cor. 9:12. The early church began to worship on Sunday because Jesus was raised to life on Sunday. Colossians 2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
