I live in the USA and there’s a ‘30’s Levis A model 350 available at auction in January 2023. I wonder how many were made.

A bit of a palaver having the gearbox on the right and gear change on the left and the rear brake on the left and brake pedal on the right? Seems like a lot of head scratching for nothing? However it is a stunner of a bike! I cringe sometimes when I see what some people label as Cafe Racers but this is the real deal! Now I just need a kind santa to hurry up and bring me one just like it!!!

It was a lovely bike and surprisingly comfortable to ride, I would have fitted a pair of reverse cone megaphones if it were mine, they suit the Norton and provide a slightly more raucous soundtrack. As for the gear shift it was the way of all British machines back then and something you get used to, I regularly switch between sides and it only catches me out once in a while. Best of luck with Santa :)

They would have sold thousands more if Lionel had not broke the Rocket 3 line down and started building the Ariel 3 instead.

The hideous idiotic music is unnecessary, but the bike looks and sounds just fabulous. Let's here more of the glorious triples exhaust note please.

Yeah triples rule , Especially BSA's 👍 .. Where did you get the exhaust header with the welded in balance pipe ? , I've not seen that anywhere before ,

That's the way the BSA Rocket 3 came from the factory.

@@autodidact537 Yeah with the 2 smaller diameter curved header pipes from out of the centre cylinder that were then saddle welded back into the 2 outer exhaust header pipes , I agree .. But i'm talking about that extra piece of straight horizontal "Balance pipe" like was sometimes used on the Triumph & BSA twins exhaust headers , If you freeze the video at 1:35 and also 1:58 you can easily see it's a custom made exhaust header

Hi Graham it was a really sweet old bike and a joy to ride. Unfortunately it was never mine, a friend used to import classic bikes from South Africa and sell them, I helped with videos and listings this was a video I took at the time.

How is it pronounced? "Levis" as in the jeans, or "Levis" as in "Crevis"?

I used to own this bike 1977 to 1988. The original owner 1953 to 1977 gave it to his grandson to repair. He wrecked it. I repaired it and changed colour to coffee and cream. You have made a beautiful job of your restoration. I recognised the engine sound instantly. Well done.

Hi Tony sorry I missed this comment when you posted it, thank you for the history :) I am afraid I am not able to take credit for the restoration that was completed by a previous owner, but the bike is lovely and the engine particularly is a gem.

Used to know a guy (known as 'Hat') from Borhamwood who had one of these with a front brake that was a double-sided four leading shoe hub..... eight leading shoes - must have been a nightmare to set up.....
@beazas
@beazas 4 жыл бұрын
Now there can't have been to many of those 8 leading shoe brakes fitted to Rocket 3's back in the day ? , Old mate of mine had one on his Rocket 3 - Huge thing it was - Goldie / Bronze in colour i seem to remember ? , It might well have been the same Rocket 3 that my mate from West Horndon owned back in around 1978 - 79 .. His nickname was "Despond" after a comedy sketch family on the Les Dawson show .

@@beazas I wonder..... the guy I knew had the bike a little earlier than that....... & though it might be 'suggestive memory' I think he did sell it - bought a Honda or Kwacker four I think....... Now I think on it, the drum was so large that there was not much room for the spokes...... sounds like the same bike ! - red(dish) in colour, maybe maroon.....
